How safe are our cars from theft?
Hi friends!
How easy is it to steal a crossfire? Asking for a friend....
Totally joking, I'm not trying to steal any Crossfires BUT...it seems I have heard of numerous cars being stolen on Nextdoor App. I live in a pretty expensive neighborhood in Florida and on our island there is never really any crimes going on besides the occasional DUI from a neighboring bar. Now, the concern is that these thefts are starting to get closer and closer to here. Police does a great job patrolling my neighborhood just to be present and I'm hoping it would deter thieves but it really made me wonder how safe our cars are.
A lot of us have their alarm sirens disconnected or the batteries have leaked, not even making people aware their sirens are out of commission (I just ordered two one for my Limited and one for the SRT).
But assuming someone gets into the vehicle or the vehicle is unlocked...how easy is it for a professional to get the car to start?
I'd hope as difficult as it is to get a replacement FOB made, it's not easy to bypass the security features of this car and get it to start without a key but what do I know? I'm also surprised how they get to steal a 2015 BMW X5 (happened last week nearby) and today a 2016 Honda Odyssey.
Your input is appreciated.

There is a ton of information about this car on this forum. No one wants to steal a 17 year old Chrysler. Unless of course you leave the keys in it and the door unlocked and wide open. Simply stated, without the key fob transponder they’re pretty much impossible to start.
Have you dug into the search bar? It’s great for self discovery, doing the research, then circling back with points that may require clarification, it’s a good thing. If you’re asking the question, there is a really great chance that someone else has asked that or a very similar question in the past 15+ years.
You’ve let us all know that you’re super busy but you probably could have found your answer in the time it took you to type your question.

Considering how flakey the factory security stuff is and problems people have had with the skreem going out they are lucky if they can steal it if you give them to key so pretty good anti theft wise

Get some decent CCTV outside your property, as a visual deterrant, goes a long way! Along with appropriate "CCTV in operation" stickers.
Most bad guys dont like to openly commit a crime if they know every step is being recorded, plus can see the cameras are covering the premises.
It's also relatively cheap to fit additional physical steering wheel locks etc. Another decent visual deterrant. While they might not stop the determined criminal, a casual opportunist might see that over your wheel and decide he stands a better chance against a vehicle with NO additional security aids. All helps.

Why respond when you don't have anything to add really? It's a forum isn't it? So we talke about cars here. Cars we all appreciate and love. That's what we have in common.
The search function is questionable at best. Many times I spent hours finding things or NOT....
AT this point there is a good chance most problems/questions have been answered in one fashion or another but does that mean we should lock the forum down now? Why don't you deactivate your account if you don't want to type anymore?
Everyone else came in here with good suggestions and and helpful comments....why steal a 18 year old vehicle? Of course that doesn't make much sense but times are tough for a lot of people and rational thinking is the last thing when you are in a bind....so when they see a nice looking convertible/sports car sitting in an empty lot they might just go for it.
American Phil,
If it’s about things of value to add to the forum. We”re all waiting for your contributions.
As evidenced by your latest reply, we all know we’ll be waiting a long time for anything of value.
All I suggested was that you do some of the work. It if your not capable because you’re too busy please continue to let us know. We’ll all continue to feed you with information that you’ll never act on
Hope your day is a good one. Stay busy, we all know you are

Still salty that I just don't see the need to convert my NA into an SRT 6 money/time wise when I could just purchase an SRT6 huh?

Why keep asking nonsense questions over and over? Can't you take a break like Canadian Phil does from time to time?
You don't have to just use the search function on the forum you can also Google your questions and this site is very well indexed and will pop up. Or you can use Google to specifically search on this site only.
Yes just about every question has been answered on here except for every single part number.
Older cars are usually stolen for parts or because the insurance company will not care or the owner no longer has full coverage.
Which account will you reply from next?
My god....get down from your high horse every now and then and just take a step back. I post from two accounts "nickwe21" and "Nickwe21." Because I cannot remember my password from 2011 and don't have access to that email address anymore to reset it.
Hence why I made a second account so I could actually read and reply/post from my phone while I'm at work. If I didn't want anyone to know that I would just use my VPN and you would never know but I never had any intend besides what I just said.
I didn't know this disrupts the utopia of this forum so much that I'm somehow blacklisted from participating here.
yes, no doubt, I'm far from a technical wizard and probably can't contribute much as far as repairing things. I joined this forum in 2011 because I am a big fan of Chrysler Crossfires and enjoyed reading peoples opinion on those vehicles. And whenever I had an issue over the last 11 years, I always found comfort into coming to the forum and getting help. With some tips and pictures on how to fix it I'd be able to tackle the minor issues myself and was very happy not having to spend a fortune at dealerships who don't know or don't care to work on our cars.
Over the last few years I've seen many members leave or evade to Facebook groups because the "seasoned" members here think they are somehow better than the rest of us. It's actually sad because at the end of the day we are all here for the same reason - to enjoy our cars.
Sorry to disrupt here with the questions I asked. Years ago they would be answered with a little sense of humor or at least some constructive feedback. Not sure if you guys are retired or just have too much time on your hands but I don't see the need to call someone out who doesn't have the time (and admittedly know-how) to turn a NA Crossfire into an SRT6. I admire anyone who does that or V8 conversions. I'd even love to see some pictures or read about the process but you can't fault me for not wanting to take on a project like that because I don't see the sense for ME. That's not to say someone else doesn't feel totally different about that but for me it's just not a viable option at the moment.
Btw....who's Phil? Sorry search function didn't yield a result but fill me in if you see fit!

Since you have been a member since 2011, you should know we get tired of the same question being asked over and over. You should have learned by now how to use the search box, Google your questions or even Google just this site to find answers.
Yes you know who your Canadian counterpart is since you have been here since 2011, you aren't fooling anyone!
Please feel free to take a break and go to Facebook.
Or we will wait for the next question like in what German city was the Crossfire built?
You are totally projecting that you are on your high horse (your so called important job, rich neighborhood island, too busy to read all the posts etc) . If you know the password to one account then just use that one. Your VPN means nothing to anyone we can tell it is you from you replying to your own nonsense questions.

Can't say the same about you.
Is it a crime to simply state that my job keeps me busy and I therefore don't have time to check in on the forum 24/7 or convert Limited Crossfires to SRT6s?
If you got the impression I'm bragging about my lifestyle I am legitimately sorry. That was never my intend.
As far as Canadian Phil, I have no idea who that is. From the sound of it another victim of your bullying tactics.
Like I said, I recognize some User names from years of being on the forum. For a while I didn't post for years and just read threads/posts I found interesting without joining in on the BS or flaming or whatever else not.
Not sure what I did to rub you the wrong way but seems like it's easy to do for some reason.
Still waiting for you to show me though where I gave off the impression of being "so special"...if that is your takeaway on an online forum that lives off of people asking questions, maybe you should resort to Facebook or just go for a walk!
Go back into any of my comments back to 2011 and show me where I ever came across as condescending, arrogant, bragging or insulting anyone. There won't be a single one.
Can't say the same about you.

I am not that bored to read your nonsense from 2011. Yes your latest posts about your special job, entitled to have 2 accounts, your rich neighborhood on an island, you are so busy but not busy enough to post nonsense etc
You can go ahead and go to Facebook or go ask the same annoying questions on the German crossfire forum when you aren't happy here. They can both have you full time since you bring nothing to this forum except being fake polite and torturing us with your annoying questions. I wish it was a crime, believe me I would be the first to report you.
If somebody wants to steal your car they will, plain and simple. That is the answer to your pointless thread.
Fake polite? Or maybe you are just condescending and rude and feel entitled cause you have been here before me or many others?
I have never had an issue on this forum or the German Crossfire forum. Grew up in Germany, speak it fluently...actually have been to Osnabrück and know where those places are.
Not sure what has you so ticked off about me. I never bragged about my job, solely mentioned that I am busy. Maybe if you tried that some time your retirement wouldn't be so boring and you would not have to call people out on public forums for asking questions.
AND what does the tiny fact that I mentioned where I live concern you so much? Look on a map of Florida...tons of man-made or non-man made little islands. It's in literally every other street name on the map.
You sound old, grumpy and somehow oddly jealous of me. Not sure why or how but I guess keep on keeping on Ronman! Wanna be the man? Act like it....
And what are you trying to report me for? You love searches so much. Do a little search on what the purpose of an ONLINE FORUM is...while you report me...will you also report yourself for accusing people of stuff that you have made up in your head? Let me know the outcome!

No need to continue engaging with an;
ID 10 T
He'll only bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
For a super busy guy (who himself is probably retired) there appears to be lots of "work" time to be incensed and reply to the messages but he has no time to look into the 1000's of questions asked before and circle around with specifics. Some people are just super busy and like everyone around them to know that too.
Its an amazing day today, enjoy the heat and go for a spin.

How safe are our cars from theft?
Not any more nor less than any other car. Depends on the item(s), motives, etc of the PERPETRATOR(I'm just trying to understand how this became a Flame war)

Trust me I try to understand, too. I mentioned in another thread that I have a lot on my plate when it was suggested instead of purchasing an SRT6 I should go for a conversion from NA to SRT. I ended up purchasing an SRT.
Besides that these class acts try to convince themselves that I'm arrogant and consider myself "special". Never have I had any issues with anybody else on this forum. I have been a fan of Crossfires since 2011 when I purchased an NA and have been a proud owner ever since. When I joined this forum, for some reason this forum and at the time helpful and polite users, added to the excitement.
THere have been months and even years where I was barely on here and at times I don't respond right away just because life gets in the way.
I live in Florida and have met people on the Florida Facebook group in person...all super nice, super helpful and interesting to be around. I have made some great friends through there which is why it's sad to see people misread me entirely on this forum but I would guess it's a small minority and that it's just part of being "online" so to speak.
I'm 35 a year old Marine Corps veteran who worked hard to be where I am in life (always a work in progress) and volunteer for charity events in association with the VFW, HFOT, Wounded Warrior etc in my spare time as well as spending time with my family. Is that a crime?
Besides that I share a love for cars and especially Crossfires or else I wouldn't be here.
Whatever I did to rub anyone the wrong way I would apologize at this point but I don't know what I am apologizing for. Take a look at yourself and ask yourself what I actually did or didn't do to make you this angry at me. I would be the first one to call it out but I am not kidding when I say besides asking a bunch of questions out of excitement and interest I don't see what the capital offense was.
American Phil out!
PS still trying to figure out who this bully victim Phil is or was. But I'm sure Ronnie can fill me in. It sounds like this isn't the first time he has chastised people behind a keyboard.

It sounds like this isn't the first time he has chastised people behind a keyboard.

..
There is a lot more people on this forum who have reached out to help with a variety of projects I tried to tackle and made life much easier.
most likely there is going to be one of those bullies claiming I'm fake friendly or polite. But you know what, I'd take friendly and polite over shitty and disgruntled any time on an online forum whether it's fake or not!
I keep my Crossies in my locked garage for the summer when I drive them regularly, and in a locked storage unit for the winter when they hibernate. I guess leaving the keys in them in the garage is risky, but I pull the batteries for the winter so no can start. When I park them outside, I generally try to park as far from the riffraff as I can, mostly to avoid door dings, but also to discourage lurking around the vehicle.
I suspect cars are stolen for joyriding purposes or because they are to be parted out. Garaging reduces the occurence of the former and there is not a huge demand for parts to make it worth a chop shop's trouble.
And as pointed out, the keyfob interlock makes it damn tough to start without the proper key.
