Default touch free car wash

Are the touch free car washes safe for my x-fires paint? They use high pressured water to clean the car rather than the brushes that scratch the paint.

touch free car washes are fine for the crossfire but...here are a few negatives imo...

1. be careful not to scratch the face of the rims when entering the track system.

2. in most cases the detergents are so strong (to clean w/o touching surface) they strip your cars wax.

I just went, and chose to have it waxed too. Is this wax any good, or junk? I used Meguiars wax by hand on my car about 2 months ago.

Is there any way to tell whether your cars waxed has been stripped?

Cool Re: touch free car wash

The pressure will strip the wax, look for dull spots on the finish. The wax they use is similar to a low grade spray wax or detailing spray. Be careful of your headlamps, the pressure can break the seal around the lens. This has happened to me and my dealer replaced the headlamp under warranty. A good friend of mine owns a gas station with a touchless laser wash, he will not put his car through it and suggest that I do the same.

the best way to tell is...by the touch of your hand.

~ a car with protection...your hand will slide across the smooth paint.

~ if the wax is no longer...your hand will drag across the paint with no soft feeling what-so-ever...squeaking across the surface.

the "spray wax" the touch-less carwash offers... is a quick, "very" short term surface waxing.

I checked, and the my finger doesn't glide across it anymore. I'm gonna have to re-wax next time i wash it. Which sux b/c waxing takes forever and its tiring. Anyone know of any products that make buffing the wax easier, or any tips?

Try Liquid Glass! It's not a wax, it's a polish that lasts for very long. Gives a clear finish, mirror-like. Very easy to use. On my XF took about 30 mins. No rubbing or buffing. And no long car washing anymore. Once a week a just wipe the dust off with a dry cloth. Highly recommendable for our beauties.

Greets

EDIT: And for preparation use Pre-Cleaner. Very easy to use too!

viper2ko...

remove wax with a "micro fiber" towel. these towels cut the removal time in half.

wax a fender/panel at a time and remove wax while it is still wet.

not necessary. this saves quite a bit of time and rubs the wax more so into the paint.

all "zymol" waxes recommend this procedure...but i do it with all waxes. you'll like it.

i had owned a highline detailing business for over 10 years. hope this helps!
