Default Rotor Painting?

I was thinking about painting my rotors. Has anyone done it and what kind of paint do you prefer?

Duplicolor Engine enamel: http://www.duplicolor.com/products/engine.html.

i used their gray primer and cast iron gray paint. take the rotors off, clean them up with brakekleen, tape off the contact surface and paint both the center hub and the outer ring (basically everything but the contact surface).

have fun --

Sure jason isn't talking about the calipers? That's what people usually paint.
I'm getting ready to do mine. I usually tape off the rotor surface and make sure you cover up your car. Overspray goes everywhere and you don't want to have to deal with that on your paint. The duplicolor engine paint is a great product but I've also used high temp Krylon paint.

calipers are just as easy. take 'em off, clean 'em up, prime and paint. make sure you tape off things like the piston, bleeder, rubber grommets, etc. same paint as would be used for the rotors, but you can pick your favorite color. sorry about that, i painted all three (caliper, caliper bracket, rotor).

good luck --

Anyone have pics? Plus how long do you guys think it will last? This was one of the first thing I thought about doing, but I just want to do it once.

Thumbs up Re: Rotor Painting?

I just recently painted my calipers and used "Folia-Tec Caliper Paint". This is a 2 part brush on epoxy based paint made especially for brake calipers. You can paint the calipers on the car, its a bit tedious but not bad. Put the car up on jack stands and removed all the tires , I spent about 30 mins. paint time per caliper (3 coats each). You have to let the paint dry for a full 24 hrs. The color is a bright rich RED and slightly glossy, very durable and professional looking finish. I was able to buy the kit locally at a tire shop for $30 bucks.

Jason - Sorry I don't have any pics. How long it stays looking nice depends on your driving habits. I did mine with Krylon black heat paint and they stayed nice for a long time (5-6 months) but I only drive 500 miles a month. My son, on the other hand, paints his RSX calips about once every other month and he drives all over the place. The color is strictly up to you. A lot of the high performance discs use a bright red, blue or yellow. Personally I like a more subtle look so I'm sticking to black.

I used a caliper paint kit from Tire Rack -- painted them on the car (a 2 part paint system). See my gallery for pics.
