Default To Debadge or not - that is the question

What is all this rigamoral about debadging?

I just don't get it. Is it to disguise what it is or to create what it is not? I guess the next step is to put PORSCHE or MERCEDES on it.

...I think if you owned a Camry, debadging would be amusing. Take off the Toyota badges, and it becomes the ultimate generic car. Nobody knows what it is, because it looks like everything else. And, still less people care. Is there a debadged Camry in the world? Probably. Has anyone ever noticed it? Probably not.

To me, a car like the Crossfire doesn't make sense to debadge. First of all, it's got plenty of ridges, spats, and silver trim all over it. Its surface will never be as smooth and unremarkable as an egg. Also, it's impossible to disguise what it is. It doesn't look like anything else!

IMO, old hot rods look great debadged, detrimmed, and dechromed. Any early fifties Ford truck that has been shaved, dropped, and painted a single color has street presence.

Happy Birthday TYPHOON! I just think alot of the members simply prefer the "cleaner" look on the hatch without C-R-O-S-S-F-I-R-E spelled out like it is, that's all. Just my opinion...I know ANDREWS car looks pretty good, but then we have a white one too, so I'm probably a little biased.

you are right...it simplifies the backend.

i guess i know what i am driving...so why is a badge needed...if i like the look without it.

heck...i even took the M3 badge of my 02' bmw...many ask why would you debadge an M3...its just me.

even my wife's X5 is debadged. the clean look imo.

cheers!

I agree, mines black and with the rear debadged you have the simple elegance of just the beautiful chrome wings. I've got a black license frame with a simple silver CROSSFIRE along the bottom to tell people what it is. If that's too small than they can guess what it is from my license plate XFXFXFXF (and they do constantly ask).

The chrome wings are a dead give-a-way. This symbol says Chrysler more than anything else IMO. The entire Chrysler line has the wings so, it is a very recognizable emblem.
The real purist debadger would remove all badges!!! Then it really would be debadged. Come on, who is the debadge king?

I don't think anyone needs to know what it is. I partially debadged mine -- left 3 letters on and centered "SSF".

Don't debadge your car if you've put up a few thousand miles on it already. I debadged mine when it was still brand new!

I'm leaving mine the way it came. I do draw the line at car dealer monograms/stickers. Those are never on my cars. They want to pay me to advertise then we can talk about it.

I think the name Crossfire is one of the great things about the car and it identifies it, my tag is "CAUGHT" and this would not make since if it was debadged. I will leave the badges as they are it is part of the cars personality!

why not remove them after a few thousand miles? the cars sit on a lot for a long time, usually outside in the elements, before being purchased. i removed mine with 6k on the odometer looks great. especially with Andrews vinyl emblems.

i think he may be referring to the c-r-o-s-s-f-i-r-e badge due to possible paint fade. with a little bit of polish and wax...i personally think one would be fine.

this may not be the case for an abused black car with some mileage. paint fade then could be an issue.

i won't recommend it especially if the crossfire's been waxed several times...it'll be hard to catch up with the old wax and the letters will leave a trace.

Well I like knowing what I drive. I'm getting senile and I forget, so I'm not going to debadge. I also need to remember where to take it for those $100 oil changes!
