2004 Crossfire 170k just bought for cheap. (Engine has 120k)
Just bought a 2004 White Xfire this evening with standard shift. Poor guy put soo much money into it and just couldn't go any further. It runs but needs la little TLC.. "He Says" tranny, clutch assembly, and engine replaced in the past couple of months. He had owned it for the past 10 years. Has good newer tires, excellent interior and headliner. Front bumper cover has about a 2" tear on the passenger side. Headlight and tail lights are in good shape and a brand new alternator and battery. If not raining tomorrow I'll check things out to see what I got. I offered to help him get the car up and running but he told me he was "just over it" and wanted to get rid of it. He was going to call the junk yard!!!
UPDATE 10/05/2025: HAD CAR FOR ABOUT SIX WEEKS NOW AND COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW IT'S BEEN NEGLECTED FOR SO LONG. FOUND MANY PROBLEMS WHICH I'VE CORRECTED AND MANY MORE STILL NEEDING REPAIRS. THREE MAJOR THINGS THINGS ARE A WORK IN PROGRESS. FRONT BALL JOINTS, RUSTED OUT TRUNK AND SECOND GEAR SYNCHROS. THE SYNCHROS CAN BE LIVED WITH WITHOUT CHANGING THE TRANNY AS NOT BEING SUPER BAD "YET!" REAR SUSPENSION HAS NOT BEEN INVESTIGATED YET BUT SEEMS TO BE GOOD.

Reason: Better pictures. Title Update
Found the owners manual and quick start/radio guide in the glove box. The guy also gave his old starter, alternator and new unopened crank and cam sensors. Former owner really doesn't have much mechanical knowledge and may not understand what his mechanics have really repaired. He said he spent $2k on a new transmission but I think all he got was a new clutch assembly based on the price and pics he supplied.
The engine was hardly running, dieseling and exhaust smelling of gas. Do you think 10 year old engine air filters could be problematic? Lol the engine now ruins smooth as silk. Cleaned the maf and ordered new filters, side marker bulbs, license and plate/trunk bulbs.
Found a few minor problems. Driver seat movements ane not working. The former owner was about' six three and seat is all the way back and i can barely puch in the clutch to start engine. The rear view mirror has gotta be replaced and all the side marker lights and plate lights are out. Both headlight vent tubes are missing. Door lock are not functioning but hear them trying to work. Oh no!!!! The drink older broken! Lol. Anxious to give it a test drive but raing pretty hard and want new filters first. The radio and ac are working well. The cel is lit and i've not had time to pull any codes yet. So far i'm really happy and think this is not going to be a spare parts car. That being said i just don't ned three crossfires. Wifey has been gone this weekend and doesn't know i bought another on and she didn't like the first two either! If you don't hear from me in a while i'm either in the hospital or dead! Lol
Checked seat fuses #21 and #22. Both 30amp fuses are good. Gonna have to do some research and find out the power distribution to the seats. Hope the seat motors are still good. I looked up used speaker grills on eBad and can't believe $50 to $90 for a darn speaker grill. Time to make my own for the drivers side door speaker. Just priced an interior rear view OEM mirror. $59 to $299 and that will just "NEVER" happen!
Check CEL light is on and the BAS/ESP light. Don't know what to check about that????? Guess I'll try turning steering wheel all the way left and then right to see if it resets.
UPDATE: RIGHT/LEFT/CENTER OF STEERING WHEEL CORRECTED THE BAS/ESP LIGHT PROBLEM. ( FOR NOW ).
2nd UPDATE 08/25: BAS/ESP IS BACK AGAIN. MAYBEA SENSOR SOMEWHERE???
Door lock hopefully isn't the pump in the trunk having been submerged in water. Wouldn't surprise me. Do the doors work with the button on the interior?
I would pull the Styrofoam in the trunk under the mat just to see what it looks like under there then punch out the grommet just in case it ever leaks in there and also see if the central locking module has any signs of corrosion in there.
Seats, I would bet is just the relay behind the driver side a/c vent. They always fail. Cheap to replace and quick, too.

Thanks for your reply! The trunk is dry and I can hear the door locks trying to work with the vacuum. As far as the seat relay goes I had forgotten about that. I replaced it on one of my other Xfires about three years ago! Thanks for the tip!
Something different about 2004 headlights and my 2005 & 2006 headlights. On my '05 & '06 models there is a vent tube on the upper corner that is prone to let water in if the tube is missing. This 2004 model has no vent, that I can find, and don't know how water is getting into the lens. The light assembly looks almost like new with no cracks in lens. Anyone have an insight into this problem?
Anyone know where the fuse is for the central pump, in the trunk, is located "and" is there more than one fuse? (#26 good) Don't find any information on troubleshooting the pump. Former owner told me, this evening, that he ran the car into water a couple years ago up to about 18" below the windows. He said this is why he had to have the engine replaced. So I guess removing the pump for an inspection, OR REPLACEMENT, of the pump is necessary. That said, I'd guess checking any fuses would be a first step.
Anyone had a pump apart to see what makes it tick?
VERY WELL BE WHAT HAPPENED. I'M GOING TO DRILL OUT THE STUB, AT THE BACK UPPER CORNER, FOR ADDING A VENT TUBE. THE STUB IS THERE, IT'S JUST NOT DRILLED OUT FOR VENTING.
UPPER REAR OF HEADLIGHT SHOWING UNDRILLED OUT STUB.
