Meshcraft, shop the web, get a great deal. Fly out to pick it up, have a blast driving your new car home.
Think of it as some "quality time" between you and your car, as you get to know one another.
It's just that simple. Good Luck!

Meshcraft:
I agree with +fireamx, look for a good deal and do a road trip. One suggestion is that you carry a tire plug kit with you just in case. Remember, we don't have spares.
PS. The Xfires are a Blast!

I use the Crossfire as a daily driver so the report I am giving you is reflective of that style of use. To date I have had no (Zero) (None) reliability issues or occurrences with the Crossfire. There is just about 16,000 miles on the car and have enjoyed very good gas mileage averaging in the 27+ MPG range overall.

The fit and finish are holding up well.

Overall I could not be happier.

If you'd have told me 10 years ago I'd be driving a Chrysler I'd have laughed at you.
After a PT Cruiser LTD and a GT Cruiser and now my Crossfire I'm very impressed with Chrysler's quality and I can tell you the Crossfire is a step above both PT's. This car is just plain wonderful!
My grand dad sold Chrysler's back in the 50's, I'm sure he's happy, I know I am.

I've had a Wrangler Renegade, 5 Grand Cherokees, a 300M, a Liberty Renegade and a Crossfire Roadster. One replaced transmission. No other problems of any kind. You know why I buy Jeeps/Chryslers. You can't buy a better car for the money!

Have now had my little X-Fire for about 6 months and it has been one of the best cars I have owned to date (predecessors include a host of crazy machines - the last being a '96 Bentley Turbo RL - now there is a maintenance-intensive car - miss the car but not the upkeep). I am getting 18-20 MPG around town (would be better if I kept my foot out of it) and up to 24-25 MPG on the highway (usually at excessive rates of speed - the thing just settles in about 90 mph - gets more solid, the faster you go!)... I still have a hatch rattle as I have been unwilling to do the "dealer dance" to get it fixed... Initial concerns about moisture in the headlight assemblies proved to be nothing (still clear after a lens polish and application of 3M's lens film)... At <$24K, there was just nothing close! ...Still isn't as near as I can tell!

Thumbs up Re: Reliability?

I've had my car since the end of April and put on 7,600 miles since then and I haven't had a single problem with the car so far. I've been down to WV, over to Chicago and went down to the Smokey Mountains in October and "put it through the paces" in the mountains, meaning I drove it pretty hard and it was awesome! The oil changes cost a bit more because it takes 8.5 quarts of Mobil 1, but then again, what else would you want to put in the car!? The oil life monitor can let you go to 7,500 mile or well beyond that, so the cost of the oil change is No big deal IMO. If you buy one, post your pic and announce it to everyone, its been a fun car!

I bought mine as a used car (2 years old / 4,800 miles) 8 months ago and have only had the following non-routine work:

1. Replaced the original radio with the one that has the faceplate that can be read in sunlight. (TSB)
2. Oiled the spoiler to eliminate a squeak. (TSB)
3. Replaced the "broken" cupholder with the storage bin. (TSB)
4. Replaced the Michelin Sports with the Conti's (the Michelin's still had plenty of tread left and will go back on next spring).

Just turned over 19,000 miles and expect to get many more at this pace.

Thumbs up Re: Reliability?

I live on an unsealed road, summer dust and winter mud. I park in the open all weekend down at the marina and mid week bouncing over building sites and pot holes fit for a 4WD.
The car gets a mud and salt air hose down on the day but otherwise a once a week wash and despite the rigors she still looks trumps and drives as new, not let me down once.
Not bad for a paddock basher.

Hello,

Thanks for your replies. Well a few days ago I bought a 2004 Crossfire limited coupe in silver-blue.
I love it! The weather is bad right now so I'll wait until I can get it washed and waxed to post pics.

I bought my car in October new, it just rolled 9,000 miles 2 oil changes. I did have squeak in the rear suspension but it was just a bushing but only took 2 days to get it fixed.

I have an '05 limited with 5,000 miles on her so far. The car has been fantastic so far- replaced the wiper blade and a fog light. I think it is one of the best kept secrets for a sport car -

Cool Re: Reliability?

I have an 2005 Roadster Limited purchased in Sept. of 04' and currently has 13,585 miles on the odo, and is my daily driver. The only problem I am dealing with at this moment are the heated seats not working, this seems to be an emerging problem with Xfire. This problem is being addressed by the dealer at this point in time. No other issues at this time, below is a list of warranty/TSB issues that were painlessly resolved by my dealer.

1) Headlight Condensation TSB, TSB work performed but did not work. Dealer changed both headlights under warranty.

2) Transmission "O" Ring leak TSB, took about an hour to fix.

3) Over head courtesy light replaced under warranty. Took 2 days to get part and 20 mins. to install.

4) Wind cabin noise TSB.

I envy all your mileage at this time! I bought mine 01/2004 and has 24k mileage on it. I kept it in the garage 6 times a week but still has more mileage than most of you guys!

Anyway, I'm probably driving it all day long on my one day a week XFIREX driving in the last 2 years. Reliability is solid and great to this date even with the stiff sporty ride from my H&R Cup Kit (not recommended if you have kidney problems).

I treated it like a concubine, buy this and buy that kinda stuff for XFIREX! Even my clothes, shoes and watch should match my XFIREX every time I drive it! Gotta have all those RED stuff!

I know I'm not the only one crazy about their Crossfire! C'mon guys, you always hear the spoiler whining in the rear at 65 mph even if you're not driving your crossfire! LOL!

Other than the 6 speed popping out of the first gear gate, mine's been fine. I think one thing that makes this car better is that the manufacturing was subbed out to Karmann. I think they are "master craftsman" types who build cars by hand.

I have a '04 coupe and i have had it in the shop several times. Cam sensor went out, now it idles hard and stalls out. The stereo had to be replaced, the heater went out on the driver's seat. I bought it with 6k miles on it and only drive it to work. I love the car but i have had more than a few issues with it.

It seems the '04 has its share of issues while the '05 they ironed out alot of those issues.
How do other '05s feel?

For the most part, the problems associated with the 6-speed transmission occurred with some units built before Dec 31, 2003. I had my transmission swapped out three months after buying my car and it fixed my popping out of gear problem. The new transmission was still a tad clunky, but seems to have smoothed out with age. My 1st to 2nd gear shift is a lot better too, which I contribute to getting used to the short throw shifter and long throw clutch.
