Default 10 free oil changes - 8 = 2

My Dealers new math. When I bought my Crossfire new almost exactly 2 years ago, the salesman told me "10 free oil changes come with this car!" Great deal I thought - Mobile 1 ain't cheap. Now get a grip - this is my first oil change in 2 years, - the wrench Icon came on at 3,500 miles (third car, seldom used, looks good in my garage) so I called for an appointment. Told the service attendant about the free oil change deal and she told me that she would have to check. Came back with - you get a free loaner but no oil changes.

Taking the offense I asked to see the sales manager and got the same response. Barely maintaining my cool, I questioned the responsibility of the dealership backing up it's sales peoples promises as well as other arguments. Well, she relented and I got my free ($125) oil/filter, 27 point check et all, and a coupon for one more free oil change.

Truthfully, I felt as though the salesman that sold me my car and the 10 free deal was blowing smoke, and I didn't get it in writing, so I feel rather fortunate in getting what I did. Moral of the story, get any salesman's promises in writing.

Rule #4... The Sales Dept. has nothing to do with the Service Dept. so have the service manager sign off on it too.

Like Ben said - always ask them to put it in writing. i have a coupon my dealer sent me for a $25 oil and filter change. I don't see where there are any exclusions but I do intend to make sure that it includes the proper Mobil 1.
The service manager is a client of mine so I figure that's a plus.

Chrysler dealer I got mine from charges $87 for mobil 1 oil change and I got a card they punch buy 4 get 1 free I that was nice of them. But I changed my own cost me $70 (I didn't know it took 8.5 quarts, I bought 5 and had a long long walk to the parts store).

I got a booklet with 3 tears worth of oil changes it has 12 coupons in it and it was given to me by the salesman from the service department. It is based on 3,000 mile oil changes. I know that I am going to get some strange looks when I bring this coupon book in for my oil changes.

I'll be doing my own oil changes also, got one question. How did you get the oil filter off the Crossfire without spilling the oil all over the engine. Isn't that one heck of a way to mount an oil filter, upside down and on top of the engine.

Not to be a jerk or anything but I was re-reading my service manual and the wrench shows up prior to your next suggested service and it will display the number of day or miles left before your service is due. I just want to clear this up so people don't see the wrench and think that they have to get the service/oil change done right away. I know my wrench with the clock has been on since I bought the car and that was when the car had 30 miles on.

Also, the free loaner isn't a deal because it's included in the standard Chrysler warranty for the car...any time the car goes in for service, you have the right to a free mid-size loaner.

I wrapped an old towel around the base of the filter, then just "cracked" the filter open to let it drain out as I was draining the pan. There was no gush of oil, hardly even a drop got on the towel when I pulled this bayonet out of the engine. And while you are waiting for the 8.5 quarts to drain you can always clean the bottom engine cover.

My car came with a little card that said Lifetime free oil changes. The service manager said the card was given to me by accident but since I have it, a deal is a deal. So far lifetime has been 2.

Now that's strange - when I first noticed the "wrench" it had the clock and read 34, by the time I got my appointment and brought it in it read 51 - It had counted UP!

From what I understand the computer computes service intervals based on the way you drive - hot rod it and it calls for more frequent changes. I generally take it easy on my Crossfire, so I got a 3500 interval, but it's also based on if you don't use your car and it just sits, which mine does. I might add, this was my first change, maybe the computer takes that in account as Mobil 1 is good for 10K miles.

Edit add - Ok, maybe I have it figured - the first 34 had a minus in front of it as did the 51, maybe after it counts down to zero days, it may go negative. I may have been "wrenched" for awhile, that icon is easy to miss.

Yeah I know I don't remember to look at it everyday myself I was just trying to clarify that the wrench doesn't mean that you have to get our oil changed right away the single wrench just tells you that you need to perform service A and the double wrench tell you that you need to perform service B. Also if you have a clock next to your wrench that means that you XFire is calculating the days you have left until the next oil change and I take it that if you have only the wrench that is the amount of miles left before your oil change. Also one last thing the Xfires FSS (this is the computer that take in all the info about your cars driving conditions and calculate the oil change interval with that info) is set for oil changes every 7,000 miles now if you don't hot rod the car and drive it through rough conditions (like extreme cold, extreme dust and so on) you may be able to go longer then 7,000 miles. Just some friendly info for all. Oh yeah and about the counter going up mine did the same thing to more I drove it the higher the number gets. What is happening I believe is that the car is calculating that it is roughly 2 years old and it only had 30 miles on it when I bought it so the more I drive it the closer it gets to the average mileage that the computer is set for yearly and the number of days is going to go up until I reach the proper amount of miles that should be on the car and switch to miles this is just a guess and I could be wrong.
