Talking Well he did it

Yesterday my dad went out for a drive to Connecticut, came back with the forms, he on the spot bought an '04 alabaster white crossfire coupe, with like 4 miles for $22,000. They drive it to us this week.

Black and red interior, the thing is really nice. He is planning to buy rims come spring (no chromies, i won't allow it), I must convince him to buy a SC for it.

He should have a account here come a week or 2, i'll make him get one. Any advice for him, its the 5EAT.. didn't wanna shift. Any really good first mods, he bought it so its his, which is why he did that.

Chris

Chris: Sounds like your dad bought a Crossfire and you're really excited about doing mods to HIS car... Maybe you should let your dad decide what to do with his own car...

I'm sure you are well intentioned, but the OEM vehicle is pretty darn good as is... The aftermarket industry has limited performance parts for the car, especially forced induction. You can search the forum and find most everything offered, or in development.

Tell your dad to enjoy HIS car and not to let you drive it (just kidding).

Haha yea, i'm excited for him, but he knows it can't beat mine. Well HE bought it so HE could mod it. Tonight he said he's selling some stuff for wheels, 20x10 and 19x9 in that area. Then he wants to get some startech stuff, front lip rear lip.

When I was making a deal for my base coupe, there was a 2004 available for less than 2005 base. Everyone has advised me not to go with 2004 because if the vehicle sits in the lot for that long, it will have major problems. Is that true? Chris, for your dad's sake I hope it is not true.

Really bad idea for the wheel sizes, unless he's just going to use it for a HIN show car which will not drive on the road... Trust me...

Yeah, not really good for an engine to sit for that long without servicing or some sort of preventative maintenance.

I'd make a little side wager that all of the '04's that have been sitting on the lot for 1.5 years develop engine problems within the first 6 months after purchase...

We all know how to store a car for a lengthy time... do you think the dealers took those precautions ? NOPE !!!

I see scored pistons, cracked rings and a multitude of valve and lifter problems...

Oh, that's a nice thing to read while I am sitting here perusing the forum. I bought my '04 just this past September because it had been sitting on a lot. My car seems to perform beautifully so far. Let's hope you are wrong with your assumptions. Let's hope I don't have scored pistons, cracked rings or multitude of valve and lifter problems. :P Think I will go to bed now. Don't wanna think about it. Ahh, the uplifting feeling of coming to my favorite forum. LOL Uh, anyone going to take him up on his wager? :-P

I'll try not to. It had 182 miles on it. Someone had to drive it before I got it. I am really going to bed now LOL.

Sounds like a GREAT deal! Nice father & son project. Enjoy your Dads new car and be careful. I don't know what kind of car you have, but let your dad win at least once.

Heh, another world rally blue subie...I'm surrounded by them on my other forum as it is. What do you have done to the rex, just a cobb stage 1 tune? If so, don't be too sure you can beat up on your dad from a roll. Of course, AWD manual will eat a RWD automatic on a launch, but I can hang with heavily modded wrx's mid-range.

Somehow Cissy I feel the same way all of a sudden since mine also sat in a dealers lot for quite a while. Hopefully that means nothing and we can enjoy our cars without worrying.

Wow thanks for all the help, ya he drove it and said it felt fine... yea my car was a father son project to. Anything i buy we put on... so its cool, and he knows what he's doing.

His thoughts on the wheels, if he's gonna have summer tires and wheels, why spend a boat load on the same size? But i guess i can talk him out of it, i'll see.

The car gets delivered tomorrow at 12, i'll snag some pics and post them, great time to get the car as we just got 5 inches of snow... haha.

Cissy: I'm sure it's fine... We just do certain things to engines when they are being stored for long periods of time. Over fill the oil, add fuel stabilizer to prevent water build-up...

The issue is that metal likes lubrication. If it sits without, it gets brittle and some micro cracks can occur, or oxides / hydro-oxides (rust). But I'm a little tougher on engine performance than the daily driver...

Thanks, HDDP. I was kidding around with ya. I do believe my XF is doing just fine, though.

I am sure we can enjoy w/o worry. I am still very cautious about potholes though.
