Default Crossfire Deal Breaker?

I have been considering and researching a crossfire (roadster). One major thing I don't like are the tire sizes. I wish on the base model they were smaller and possibly the size of the SLK's. I feel the current tire sizes are over kill. The 19 inch rears are very expensive. I am also concerned about potential rim damage and ride.

I doubt that I could trade in or sell a complete set of new tires and rims to cover the costs of a smaller set. Correct?

I don't think any other Chrysler cars share the same bolt pattern and over all height to do a swap at the dealer. Correct?

Do the existing tires and rims fit a SLK? Maybe a SLK owner would want to swap.

Any suggestions?

Mike

You sir are wrong... The 18's on the front do not clear the rotors by much, and I think the smallest that will fit are 17's.

The ride is awesome on the base and limited models with the current set up.

The stock rims and tires are going for $1,000 - $1,500 on Ebay daily.

There are several vendors on ebay that sell 17-19" staggered setups for under $700 plus tires. some are even under 800 with tires.

Happy hunting.

PS: your only statement that SEEMS correct is that there is nothing else at the dealership that you can swap out with...not to mention that dealerships won't do it anyway because of legal issues (that whole ford explorer flipping thing put a damper on everything).

To each his own... This is mine with track slicks on 18x8.5 fronts (245/40/18) and 18x9.5 rears (275/35/18) With the new SRT6 front Brakes.

And with street tires on 18x8.5 fronts (245/40/18) and 19x9.5 rears (255/30/19) And the old OEM front brakes

Can you tell the difference from the profile ?... Not much...

And this is a close-up shot of the new SRT6 rotors on the front 18" Pilot Sport Cups...

And these are the Hoosier comp. tires... Please note... Competition Only

Hddp, Looks good!
Trail rider, if the only thing you don't like is the wheels, I say go for it!
If you are like the rest of us you will change stuff to suite your taste anyway.

Too small? I don't know the car drives and corners like no tomorrow. Those wheels and tires are a great match for the car...

You can paint this car around a corner - the tires are awesome.

Not too tricky with 215 hp and massive tyres?
The main reason to pick the Xfire is price, if you are comparing the new R171 SLK to the Xfire its about the only thing the Xfire wins on and possibly the striking design...

You need to take a stock car for a REAL test drive to see for yourself that those tires and wheels are perfect for it. I haven't had any problems with the rims on mine. I think any smaller, and it will make the car look "pukey".

You mentioned concern damaging the rims. If you buy from a dealer, they'll probably offer a tire & wheel insurance, usually costs $300-500. If you damage the rim or if a tire blows, it's covered.
