Insurance Premiums up?
I just received my renewal notice from Farmers, and they have increased my premiums on the XFire by a little over $100. The Jeep stayed the same. Anyone else see this?
I am wondering if the cars are starting to be involved in more accidents now that we have more on the road. The increases were in Comprehensive and Collision.
Not a big increase, but I saw the same thing happen when my wife and I had '93 VW Corrado SLC's, as the cars became more popular and involved in accidents.

i have farmers as well, and just got my xfire about 3 weeks ago. my insurance didn't really go up from my gmc canyon i had. though i am 21 and male so it is gonna be high anyways. i was surprised it didn't go up much.
My insurance actually dropped when it was renewed in January. I pay $224 a month for full coverage on my 2004 Crossfire, full coverage on my wife's 2004 Oldsmobile Alero, and PLPD on my 1993 Escort. In all, not a terribly bad deal for cars registered in a major metropolitan area.
In case any one is wondering, I use Progressive. Oh, and I have no points (and no claims in over six years).

$2,688.00 a year for insurance. OUCH
$1,500.00 per year for a lexus 1999 rx300, 2004 crossfire,1973 classic mini cooper,1966 sprite, 1989 motor home, and a 1969 mercedes 280s and that's with a teen driver.

No points and no claims and that high?
I pay $86/month for full coverage with $1,000 deductible. Never been in an accident, 24, and have owned from A6 to Mustang GT but it always stayed in that range from Michigan (one of the highest insurance costs) to Fargo, ND (one of the lowest).
Where do you guys live? Or is it the car that is the case?

Cobra - Insurance can go up on a specific car for a number of reasons. I sell for Allstate and my suggestion is call your agent and ask why. If it was an "across the board rate increase" all your cars should have gone up. Did you have a claim? Did you make any changes at all to that car coverage? Did you add a driver to your policy? Did you change Comp and Collision deductibles? When did you put the car on the policy? If you put it on after renewal the rate for the 6 month period is pro rata, it would look cheaper than a full six month rate. By the way just because someone in another state pays less doesn't mean you should expect the same. Insurance is state regulated so don't get excited at what other people tell you. So there's a plethora of reasons. Start with a call to your agent, he should be able to tell you what happened. You can always PM me with insurance questions, I'll do my best to help you or anyone else with questions.

California, New Jersey and Connecticut are the highest auto insurance rates in the country. It was explained to me that those are the states with the most litigation/ lawsuits. When I moved from Maryland to New Jersey several years ago my auto insurance doubled, glad I was able to move back.
Allstate uses an alphabetical rating system to rate the accident rating on any given vehicle. I'll do some research tomorrow and let you all know how our car stacks up. This is just one of the things that goes into making up the rate. Every vehicle we insure has something called a PGS symbol. That is the accident rating on your particular car. I have to think other companies use a similar determination.

Patpur, thanks for your comments. I have had the car since Jan '05, and this is a six month renewal. The only change I made was to add a rider for coverage of a government vehicle. But that was a no cost option, according to my agent. I will call him tomorrow to find out what caused the hike. And, no tickets, and no claims in 23 three years...several warnings though
but none in writing or on my record. When I purchased the XFire, my insurance actually went down $200 a year from my 2004 Grand Prix GTP.
I'm interested to hear what your agent has to say. In Maryland, at least with Allstate tickets have no bearing on your insurance cost once your policy is written. When we first write a policy tickets and accidents do affect the rate. These days the only reason we will drop someone is with a major ticket, DUI or racing, reckless driving.
Let me know.

A short time back I saw an insurance rating on the Crossfire on MSN. The XFire is the least cost (best) rated of all Chrysler vehicles to insure (I probably didn't say it like the comparison did). Anyhow, the XFire ranked lowest cost to ensure in each category as far as the vehicle is concerned.
However, there are factors to consider beside just the car that impact the cost of the policy.
