That is nice to know. I guess I keep forgetting where this car came from.

One more quick question...I did the search but did not find the right answer. What type of key does the car use? I have seen Chrysler keys on their other cars and they are terrible. Is it a flip key?

Well, this is how I fell in love with my XF. My hubby and I were out shopping and he spotted a grey one in a parking lot. We walked over to it. I looked at it from the side, and look inside...and fell in love with it.

We came home, called the nearest dealer, asked if they had a white (Alabaster) one. They did, I told them over the phone to please get it ready that we would be at their dealership in less that an hour.

We drove up, I saw it, talked to the salesman, he asked if I wanted to drive it, and I told him, naww, I wanted that car....Bet that was the fastest sale he ever made. And I still love my car...

You should thank your parents and remind them how much you love them. I will be doing the same thing for my daughter, as long as she gets good grades, but no car at school till third year. She's driving the mini now RHD and being the tree hugger that she is she will probably want one of those hybrids with 50 bhp and ugly. Good luck in your quest, but really if you are only going to have it one year who cares about parts and service.

I got mine for the styling. there's nothing else like it on the road and there are so few of them. Is it underpowered? Depends on what you are looking for. I have had a lot of fast cars, this one is quick enough for me and I have a LTD. I can't afford the SRT and that would only get me in trouble anyway, very happy with my LTD 6 speed. NOW _ No problems at all, another Chrysler winner! I had two PT's before the Crossfire. One of the complaints I hear most is the lack of aftermarket parts. I've torn up enough cars in my 55 years, so I might get a set of wheels and a cargo cover down the road but that's it, I like it just the way it is so that's a non issue with me.
The wing automatically comes up at 63 mph or you can raise it with the push of a button. If you want a "tuner car" then pass on the Xfire. The SRT has a fixed wing. If you want something fairly unique get a Crossfire. My 19 y.o son bugs me all the time to drive it (maybe when you know what freezes over) he drives an RSX-type S so I guess it appeals to your age group. I will tell you one night I was going to the grocery store and a rather nice looking young lady was staring at my car so much she ran into the door at the store.
I guess you'd call it a flip key. You push a button and the metal key pops out.

Good luck - Pat

Oh yeah, i am thankful to my parents everyday. But my grandpa has a PH.D and so does my dad...if I don't get mine I will be dead within a week.
But yeah, I don't keep cars too long because I get tired of them. So until the day I buy 911 I will keep trying on cars.

I am reading some great posts so far, but I assure you that I am not the typical 24 year old when it comes to cars. I have owned 19 (most of them new) cars and have refined taste when it comes to cars. Not looking for tuner cars, and really interested in performance and solid interior (less plastic the better).

If a switchblade key concerns you, wait till you see the cupholder.

I think most of the people here look at our cars as "keepers". No short-term commitment for me.

You have a sense of humor too. That's a plus LOL. You have mentioned a couple of times about plastic. I must say, the console and gear shift **** is a bit "plastic". At first, I was put off by it...but it didn't take me long to not even notice it anymore. The car itself is a total distraction over any plastic.

I do hope you can find one soon to test drive. Have you tried your local Craigslist?

Wink What sense of humor?

That wasn't a sense of humor...I fear for my life daily because graduate school is tough to get into...I need a fast car just in case I need to get away.

Also, I am in Fargo, ND...Craiglist is useless here. I miss living in Jersey...and for you NJ people, you know that is saying a lot.

Hey, if you are interested in the SRT-6, take it out for a spin, then drive the 6-speed manual limited or base model. I bet you will find the 6-speed much more fun to drive and just as quick feeling. But, you say you want a refined ride, well, the Crossfire is the perfect choice for that. There really is no aftermarket for this car either, but some do say it will erupt soon for some apparent reason, unless you are willing to spend about $14K for a bored and stroked 3.8 V-6 (3.2 is stock), or about $10K for a supercharger. Oh yeah, and people love it when your in traffic and the wing pops up! Now this is what drops the panties!!! Hahaha

A few more questions I have:

1. Gas mileage? I know the listed numbers but what are your averages for city driving?
2. Trunk space? I see the pictures and dimensions, but I don't have the chance to see it yet. How large is it? I am not buying the car for space, but I need to hold a fair amount of groceries.
3. Based on German engineering, but what do you think?
4. support from Chrysler? This depends on which dealer you do business with, but how would you rate it?
5. Winter wonder land? People living in cold climates...how well does the heater work? For that matter, how well does the A/C work? constant cold/heat or is it lacking?
6. Flip key quality? there is one thing I miss from A6 and passat and jetta days...it is the flip key. They were well built and convenient to carry...how's the key for Crossfire?

Thx for answering all the questions thoroughly and great comments so far. And thx in advance for all other things you will say.

Sorry to hear about Craigslist. It's great here in California. When I was looking for a Alabaster White 6 speed manual with low mileage, I was having a hard time finding one. I put a WANTED ad on Craigslist. Someone responded by telling me that a dealership about 40 miles away had two 2004 Alabaster Manuals on their lot that never sold. This Craigslist guy just bought one of them and said one more was left.

I called the dealership immediately and bought it right then. Had only 182 miles, never sold. I was lucky. Got it for $25,000 out the door...including tax and license. Not a penny more.

So, for me, Craigslist came through. Who'da thunk it? <g>

SolidGun, we have something in common, I've had 19 brand new cars myself. Only it took me 36 years to accomplish it. I'm not trying to flame ya, but I've been reading all your posts so far, and to me, you're coming across a little "Jaded" at the ripe old age of 24. At the very least, someone with a very short automotive attention span. Still, there's nothing wrong with that, after all "variety" is the spice of life. If you are aspiring to someday be a Porsche/Ferrari owner, I can think of no other car more qualified (than a Crossfire) to ferry you along on your journey. As long as you know it's not a "drag racer", you should be satisfied with it. Especially if you only plan on keeping it for about a year. (But I wouldn't be surprised if you kept it longer.)
If you think 27k is a good price for a brand new Limited, then you have to pay closer attention to EBAY. Many Limited Crossfires have sold for less than 25k, I've seen some go for less than 23k. (Cut your spring break "fling" a couple days short, pick one off of ebay, fly out to pick it up, drive it home.) Just a suggestion. Good Luck!

I guess I do come across that way...I can see that myself.
But I have always paid for my own cars and financed it by myself with two jobs after I turned 19. I have always had two part time jobs because I was going to school. I work hard for the cars I buy and get the most out of it while I have them. I have no plans to buy a house yet because me and my wife are going to be moving soon because she is getting her 3rd degree in nursing and I am going into graduate school (and that also means no kids until we are like 29 or so).

I love cars and would love to work for car reviewing companies, but I do have to get the Ph.D for survival purposes.

I want to get the car from a dealership because of financing and all the incentives. Also, I have been on eBay since '99 but don't trust buying cars when I have not seen and driven them in person.

Thx for reading all my comments +fireamx...(btw what kind of firearms do you own? I have Glock 19 and 34, I have been shooting since I was 9 and shot competitively for a while).

1. Never tested
2. I can fit 2 full sets of golf clubs, and the trunk is deep, so groceries stay put if you fill it enough!
3. The car is probably well over 80% German. Even the brake calipers have the Mercedes sign on them! The only sense that the car is american is in the poor fitment of the console lid.
4. Oh, ummm, some hate it (I hate it), some say it's fine. Look around for posts on service w/ Chrysler for these cars.
5. I think the car was great in the snow (w/ all-season continental's). I went up a steep, icy 3 inches of snow w/o a problem, and went home on the highway at 80 in the slushy stuff, pretty good.
6. The key seems fine to me...it looks a little cheap w/ the plastic, but it always seems to spark conversation. Heck, I always raced my VW friends in their keys, to see which one comes out faster. It seems the Crossfire's is faster, and it is lighter and more compact than the VW keys.

SolidGun, Not that I have anything against them, but I don't even own a gun. Out of curiosity, why do you ask?
To answer some of your latest questions, trunk space is surprisingly sufficient. Especially for groceries in loose bags.
Gas mileage for me has been around 26 to 27 combined driving.
My wife loves the heated seats, heater and A/C work great.
The car has been a total blast for me. I bought mine last March (off EBAY) brand new, and was the easiest new car transaction I've experienced. Drove it home in 9 hours, and didn't want to get out of it. I've put 9,600 miles on it since then, and haven't taken my Viper GTS, or my Miata out of the garage since the Crossfire showed up. I only took my '69 AMX out twice last summer, and that was just for a couple car shows.
If you surf this web site, I think any and all your questions will be answered. You'll read all sorts of glowing praise, and a few complaints. But if you check out the Satisfaction poll, it looks pretty good. Really, for the discount price these cars are selling for, I honestly can't think of any other car on the market that can come close to it in value, and fun for your dollar...Mike

That is so tempting...I would fly to texas and drive up here, but that is a long way to go in a new car. Thx for looking it up though.

+fireamx...I asked that because your name resembles "firearms".

I have Monday off and that gives me a chance to drive to Minneapolis to test drive and maybe buy a car too. Anything I should keep an eye out for on used ones if that is what I have to resort to?

hmm... dents? Looks like you need to find some smaller girls, such as ones that don't weigh as much as the car itself. Weight reduction always helps performance.

I'm 21 and I have a black LTD. Whoever said young kids might not like it i dunno...I had an 05' rsx which was totaled when a drunk driver hit it while it was parked. The crossfire is plenty fast and ballsy off the line. I like it better than my acura. The stereo is the best I have ever had or heard in any stock car. Hehe the looks I get from my fellow classmates at school; priceless.
