Smile Rotex Gold Brake Pads

I know this has been discussed before. I did the search but couldn't find answer to my question...which is this:

From reading the forum, I understand that a hole must be drilled into the Rotex Gold pad for the sensor to fit through. Where is the best place to get these pads...and...it there a brand Rotex Gold pad that you don't have to drill?

Thanks!

P.S. Andrew, I found through the search, your detailed instructions on installation. Great

Mine were pre drilled. I got them from brakeworld.com? I would do it again, they stop good and lots less dust.
I had problems with there web site so they called me to figure out what I wanted. Nice people.

Thanks Stry, sounds good. We are at the "thinking about it" stage. I appreciate your fast response.

Another reason I love this forum.

I say go for it. It is as easy as any other front brake pad replacement, nothing tricky here.
When I say it was noticeably less dust, that is an understatement.
I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it myself.
I don't think that is because the rotex are that clean, it is because the factory ones are that dirty.

Also, I read some where on this forum (can't find it now) that there is a reason these aftermarket pads won't wear down the rotors faster than the OEM ones. Can someone enlighten me, please? Or, do I have that all wrong?

Also, did you all replace your pads for all 4 wheels or just the two fronts as they are by far the dirtiest?

Cissy: The hole is really simple to drill, don't feel intimidated by it... It's just a small guide hole... I'll show you via photos if you like...

This is a much better choice IMO and should come with new brake sensors...

Thanks, HDDP, for the information. Actually, a picture would be great. Um, I thought everyone here liked the Rotex Gold pads. That's all I seem to read about. I can afford those...are the ones you like very expensive? 8)

HDDP Knows his stuff, but are the ones your talking about race pads?
I only changed the fronts to the rotex gold, as did most of the other rotex users.

Nope... They're like $80 and come with new brake sensors, which if bought from your dealer separately would add about $7... I think what you're looking for are LOW DUST pads... Any ceramic pad will be considered low dust... Don't get me wrong, Rotex is a good one as well...

And since the Akebono pads come with their own sensors, you won't have to drill a hole...

Thanks Stry...I thought maybe that was the case; changing front ones only.

Thank you, HDDP! Much appreciated. I have bookmarked the Ackebono site as well as Brakeworld site.

I changed all four to rotex Gold in the first week. They are great, got them from brakeworld.com.

it's very simple... when you remove the OEM pads (inboard), you'll see a little guide hole that the tip of the brake sensor slides into... if your new pads don't have that guide hole, just drill one into it...

I'll post a picture in the next few hours for you...

This might help:
