Default Engine Oil service

Hi all, well I have had this car now for two whole days, and I don't think I've done anything else but clean and read about this car. I have a simple question that I thought I saw in the last couple of days, but I just thought I would ask. I noticed when I bought the car a couple of days ago, they gave it an oil change, but I did notice that the mech. put in 6 quarts of oil. I was watching him, because I really wanted to get the process over. I noticed the amount because as he kept putting more and more oil in, I thought, boy that engine takes a lot. Well I checked it this morning after reading the posts about is it 6 or 8. The dip stick did read, but it was on the low end. I checked the owners manual and it calls for 8.5 qts. Should I go out and buy at least another quart? I know it's MOBILE1, but what is the normal viscosity used? I live in FL. I've owned a Miata and a couple of Z cars, but for some reason this car makes me nervous. Strange. Well anyway, thanks for any info. Bob

You should go get another 2 quarts and add 1 1/2. Check you owners manual for viscosity--I think it is 0-40. Do NOT overfill!

Thanks Pete. I'll pick up the 2 like you advised. When I had my 350Z, I did most of the service myself. It took regular amounts of oil, nothing different than any other car. I've never owned a German made car, so this should be interesting. One other question if you don't mind, does this car have a timing belt or chain? I haven't gotten that far into yet. Thanks again, Bob

Did they use Mobil 1 0-40 and did they reset the FSS?

It's got a chain driving the cams. PGA gave you excellent advice about not overfilling it. I change my own oil, and I only put 8 qts back in. It doesn't hurt being a little low, but being over filled can cause damage by allowing the oil to "foam". Don't sweat it, remember "IJAC" (it's just a car). It's really no harder to take care of than the Miata or the Z's. Actually, it's easier to change the oil than my Miata is. Enjoy your new car!
