Basically, thus far, it boils down to this...either go to a place for $10 bucks real close to downtown detroit, or go to a place for $25 bucks in a upscale city much more befitting to our beloved crossfires!

I live REAL close to woodward, my vote DEFINITELY goes to the place for $25!!

I'm going out tomorrow evening to scout out a few places...but basically all the "good" spots are sold out at least a year in advance.

I'll know more late tomorrow night!

The subject is lot rental for the Crossfire Club -

Another point of view:
We live at 11 and Woodward.
We went out tonight to see what was going on at each lot.
The advantage of the 17 mile and Woodward lot is it is closer to the hotel. The rental charge includes some perks as well. It is very pretty in that area for going on drives and seeing expensive houses on the different roads.
The problem is the space for the group is behind Fox and Hound and some office buildings. There are no sidewalks or any place to walk to. You won't see the cruise from where the cars will be. The traffic travels much faster, not at the 13 and Woodward cruise speed. It is on the east side of Woodward, which means you will end up driving north on Woodward more. This is a major pain. If you have a manual Crossfire this will be hell as from 8 mile or so until 15 mile or so it is very slow, (stop-stop-go-stop-go-stop-stop) when driving north. There is no "upscale city" near the $25 lot. This area has big buildings, offices and a gas station. No other place to grab a pop or a snack.
The Ferndale lot is... in Ferndale! Check out a map, it's many miles from Downtown Detroit. The cruise doesn't go to downtown in any event. This lot is clean and private. Ferndale has sidewalks, fast food, drug stores and Woodward Ave Brewery just across the street. There are many other little places to eat as well. It is 6 miles south of the other lot, making it farther from the hotel. Being on the west side of Woodward is a big advantage. You can use the south side of Woodward to cruise, loop around to a road off of 8 mile which is west of Woodward, go north and drive south again, avoiding the north side. The traffic going south doesn't jam up and flows much better than north. The best would be to "loop around" using 10 mile as it doesn't have any homes or business on it. Also 8 mile is not exactly the high light of the area! I use it, but I don't stop for gas or go sight seeing on the side streets. For sure I wouldn't in a Crossfire and being a blond! It is 3-4 lanes that travel fairly fast.
The very best would be to get space around 13 mile on Woodward. I agree that the good spots are likely gone now. When we were out tonight it was hard to find many that could hold 20 or so cars [to consider asking about renting]. When I first heard about these choices I thought the 17 mile lot would be best, Ferndale is a neat place, but its not Bloomfield Hills. What exactly does the club want a lot for?
RPM said the reason was for a place for the group to meet. The hotel lot would work for this or some other place that isn't on Woodward. The whole point of being on Woodward is to see the cruise and have the crowd see your car. Since we are too late to have a place to park and have our cars be seen, what does the group want to use a space for? If people are thinking of coming to the cruise to drive on Woodward most of the time, then meet up for a meal and some drinks, skip renting a lot, agree to meet somewhere in a lot that is big enough, but not on Woodward.
If people are wanting to park their cars, get out chairs, meet other members, spend time watching the cruise and drive, then you want to be on Woodward. The Ferndale lot is just off of Woodward about 40 yards. You would need to take your chair and walk up to the corner if you wanted to watch the cars. I don't think ,at this late date, it is a problem, especially when your talking $10 spots.
One solution could be I offer my house as a meeting point for pizza and drinks. A problem with this is when? Friday night some members won't be here yet, Saturday is the cruise and Sunday people are going home. Another is we can't be "late and loud" as I live in a family neighborhood. If people wanted a break Saturday afternoon we could meet at my home to have a bite to eat, coffee or something cool to drink. Maybe this would be a solution to not renting a lot?
Everyone has different expectations and experiences about this. I will be happy to go along with the group. We have attended the cruise each year since it started and have always had a ball.

I'm easy, I'll go with the flow.If there is something the group thinks might be better and can't do this year, there is always next year. As for paying to park I have no problem, because the Canadian $ is worth .96 cents now!!! P.S. thanks to all the locals for all there efforts, I owe you all a brew.

I don't see the point of renting space if it's not on Woodward. I think we should meet either at the hotel or your place. I would like to thank you in advance of offering your home as a meeting place also. Also are we all going to give each other our cell numbers?

Rapp's - Thanks for all of the information. It is much appreciated.

What do the attendees think?

I should let the church or Fox & Hounds know something tomorrow.

PS - I'm not going to post my cell # on here, but I will be PM'ing it to all attendees.

I would prefer to meet where we can all gather with our cars on Saturday and be close to Woodward to be near the action at the same time. I plan to stay parked in one spot for the day. I will be arriving at the hotel Friday along with member FP around 5:00 or so. Some of the others will not arrive until Saturday it seems. I do look forward to meeting all that will be staying at the hotel Friday night. Whatever the final plan is I am gonna be there and we are gonna have fun !!!

I've been to the $25 lot (Fox & Hound) and it is a very nice place, but as stated, it is several miles from the beginning of the concentrated cruising/viewing. I would not worry about leaving my car there and wandering about - although a 3 mile walk to Birmingham (one way) is quite a walk for some people...

I do not know the $10 lot (church) in Ferndale, but I if Rapp's has scoped it out and feels it is acceptable, we should consider it - I especially like being only 40 yards from WW and in an area where there is a lot of cruise traffic. For $10, we could use it as part of the day (a couple hours, noon-3 PM) and then maybe meet elsewhere, in the late afternoon-evening(4-7 PM?) (like Rapp's house for pizza or a restaurant)??

?? apkano - what do you think - is this a scary part of town during the day? Is there enough cruise action there for people who want to see cars?

Ferndale might work good for the overall day as well. That is, we meet at the hotel @ 9-10 AM, chat a bit, then drive to North WW and head South to Ferndale (it could take several hours to get to Ferndale, even though it is only 10 miles away)... Then we park and watch in Ferndale for a while??

Like I said before...I'm open to anywhere! I am not overly aware of the area in ferndale. If other people feel like is a good spot then I'm all in! (I routinely have to go to downtown detroit for business and have never had any problems) I was just not sure how other members would feel about leaving their cars so close to detroit, what with our wonderful reputation here! There is going to be a LOT of people no matter where you go, so I don't think anything is going to happen to our cars! If anyone messes with our cars in a church parking lot, then they are going to HELL!

I agree that 13 and woodward is the "hot spot" of the cruise! That is also where the corporate chrysler crowd has their area. But the cruise does go on for miles and miles! Plenty of action just about everywhere! I usually center my cruising between 11 to 14 mile roads.

One thing to keep in mind.....we should all be on the lookout for a space for next year if everyone is interested. Most of the good spots are reserved at least a year in advance. (if not longer!)

I'm open to anything, just looking forward to meeting everyone!

OK. We've decided to use the church lot for the Dream Cruise on Saturday 8/18 - 143 Albany St. in Ferndale, MI.
This is their website (looks like they're excited to have us):
http://www.fernzion.org/default.asp?...reamCruise2007

Map: http://maps.yahoo.com/broadband#gid1...2.458258&mag=1

It will be $10/car. I will be PM'ing the address for you to send checks or money orders to (it's tax deductible also). Once they receive the $10, they will send you a parking spot # and an ID tag.

We should have 23 spots reserved in total. If we need more/less, I can contact them.

The tentative plans are:
Friday 8/17: I'll leave this to the people who are going to be there Friday night. It is looking like I am not going to be able to be there.

Saturday 8/18:
9 am - 10 am: Breakfast at the hotel (Marriot Courtyard)
10 am - 11:30 am: Cruise Woodward
11:30 am: Meet at the church lot in Ferndale
11:30 am - 4:30 pm: Check out the cars, further discussions, wander around looking at other cars, etc.
4:30 pm: Drive North on Woodward to the Moose Preserve Restaurant/Bar; where we have reservations at 5:30 pm for 40-45 people: http://207.56.98.185/moose/home.htm
5:30 pm - ??: Dinner/Drinks, etc.

Hopefully that sounds good to everyone.
Much thanks to the locals (Rapp's yellow CF, apkano) and KcKey12.

Are people who are not staying at the hotel allowed to eat breakfast too? lol.

I'm confused, if not, where are we going to meet up?

Yes, we can all eat breakfast there. But you don't have to eat to meet everyone there either.

After meeting at the hotel, we cruise, then to the parking lot.
Then checking out all the xfires, the other cars on Woodward, etc.
Then to the Moose Preserve.

Thanks RPM, you guys did a great job coordinating this event for us.

Some of us are arriving Friday evening. Who else will be at the hotel Friday night? or locals that want to come and hang with us?

Can we get a list going? I'll start;
