Woodward Dream Cruise - August 16, 2008 - Detroit, MI
Parking spots/lots at the Cruise have to be reserved ahead of time. Currently we have a “two location” solution that would allow up to 80 cars to be parked.
Lot #1- 13 Mile Road and Woodward. Large lot with the Chrysler exhibit, a local popular radio station and the Grand Nationals (small gas race cars). The new Dream Cruise Committee is planning different events for the lot this year as well.
A very busy, high volume action/ people, location.
Limit 30 spaces, Cost per space $25
Lot #2- The Zion Church lot (last year’s location). Church members are there to watch the lot and cars, we also get use of their bathroom. Located just south of 9 Mile Road.
Relaxed lot no people walking through looking at cars about ¼ block off of Woodward.
Limit 50 spaces, Cost per space last year $10, this year they would like us to reserve the whole lot, but may do per space deal again.
At either location you will see cars and people. The Church lot is farther from the restaurants and less intense. The 13 Mile lot is closer to the restaurants and has 10,000 to 30,000 people through there by the end of the day. Neither lot is close to the hotel. Further road and driving info is at:
https://www.crossfireforum.org/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=921
Both lot owners require payment for parking spaces before the event with some willingness to be flexible. My best guess is to expect 40 members and try to get a per space price from the Church. There are 26 cars/members that have confirmed attendance at the time of this post. If any one can come up with a better way to work this out please have at it.
If you are on the list as attending (or want to) but have not responded to Valk/Gary or booked a room do so ASAP. The lot owners need an answer soon. The decision will be made based on the number of members who have confirmed their attendance by June 1
.................................................. .................................................. ..................................................
[ ] Have all the members at the Church lot together
[ ] Split the members between the two lots, (pick your choice):
....I’d like to park at ___ 13/WW
....I'd like to park at ___Church lot
[ ] If 30 or less members choose the 13/WW lot only
[ ] If 30 or less members choose the Church lot only

One more thing there have been a very small number of requests for parking spots so that friends of members can attend and park with us. They don't drive a Crossfire. I am 100% for this. But I think it is fair to say a Crossfire would get a spot ahead of another make of car, what do you think? Also if the count falls very close to just one lot, would/should the friends/non members be told no? Should we then take the larger lot to avoid this? Let us know.
I am 1 of those bringing a friend and his non-XF, we will work with whatever, he will understand if parking isn't available, my other 2 non-XF friends haven't commited to attend yet, so I will park w/ you guys, my friends are on their own, but will park w/ us if available....Doc

Ann & Gary: thanks for all your hard work organizing this event.
I think it is most valuable to have all the Crossfire members and cars together, but it sure would be a shame not to be "in the thick of it" at 13 Mile. What a hard decision!!
I have a friend that I requested a space for that you can delete. He will fend for himself. He attends every year and has a regular spot and group he hangs with.

Hey Ann & Gary,
You know I don't need a Parking Space & a good reason I was coming was to be in the "Thick of It" (now more so than before, it appears
.)
It may be my only Woodward Trip & I would Not want to miss the Great Displays & Exhibits. (The Church parking lot, would not serve me well.
)
But, I'm just one of many & I don't even have a Car, so, I guess I Only get 1/2 of a Vote, Correct?
My best,
Bill

At least for me..........I'm all about the spot at 13 mile.
Last year was great, but there is so much less traffic down there. This may change because the cruise is supposed to expand down into detroit. maybe a short list will help everyone.
Zion church lot pros : better bathrooms, easier to enjoy a liquid bread beverage, less people clamoring over the cars.
Zion church lot cons: less to see, longer drive / walk to get to more action, a little off woodward (behind a building) so not as much exposure.
13/woodward lot pros: Really is the center of the cruise, much more to see and do, wayyyyyy more crowded, much better exposure for our cars, and this last one is a little more of a personal opinion...this is where I've gone pretty much every year for the past 12 years or so.
13/woodward lot cons: Port-a-potties on one side of the lot, it really is more crowded, depending on what part of the lot we're in people might think we're a part of the Chrysler display and try to look in our cars a little more than I think most of us would like (think auto show). Since this is also a public lot, and where the police have a staging area, it's up to you on whether you want to have a "barley pop" or not
.
Just a few quick thoughts.......feel free to add any others.

The kicker of it all was 13/WW originally was up to 50 spaces, then the management of the lot was jerked around by a big client and one of the smaller groups like us lost all of their space, so I am pleased to have 30.
Hey by the way "Ann & Gary" Whats with this Gary??????
Bill, any member who comes to an event gets to give his/her .02 cents

Bill- If you/we end up at the church you can ride shotgun cruising with me. Don't worry you won't miss anything at the church lot either. You'll just have to walk a block or two.
