....just crash at home and leave around 5am to be at the hotel by 8am to join our convoy. When is the convoy coming through Knoxville? We'd like to add to the conga line of Crossfires!

 

For all that are looking for a place to stay ,might look at getting the big cabin that sleep 8 , by time the GTG get here in 4 weeks you might be able to fill it up, just somthing to think about .

Hey you guys do you want to join us Thursday night or meet us Friday morning for a convoy of Crossfires ??

Stay Thursday night (Sept 30) at the Red Roof Inn - Florence, Kentucky.
O'Charleys is a good restaurant walking distance from the hotel for happy hour and /or dinner.

Friday morning we all leave at 8:00am for the 5 hour run to the Fontana Lodge with our first trip through the Dragon in route just before we arrive.

 

yea it shows 4 hours and 30 mins .,. i think ill drive in late thursday night.. i really dont wnat to have to get up at 3is in the morning and drive to you guys. then drive 5 more hours.. i get out of school at 10 so ill be there around 2 or 3am.. idk which sucks more. help me!!!

 

It's your choice....but I'd rather you meet us in the morning rather than arriving in the middle of the night.

Can you cut school short and leave earlier if need be ??

I'm thinking we are not all going to fit at the dam....and we are going to need a helo for the pic.

 

With the feedback already received that most of the motels in the area are booked solid for this weekend, motor traffic in & around "The Dragon" is going to be somewhat fierce. And probably closely monitored by the local "public safety watchdogs". Looks like we will be just one of quite a few groups gathering this particular weekend for "Dragon Runs". And with the size of our group reaching epic proportions (I think it's REALLY GREAT!!!), it won't take long for word to get around about the XFire Group. Probably already has started. Pretty easy to get "labeled" as a potential nuisance (by local law enforcement) instead of a bunch a car enthusiasts just enjoying our cars, the local roadways and the surrounding topography.

So everyone travel smart coming & going on our scheduled weekend. And let's avoid any issues with local law enforcement during our weekend gathering. Weather is starting to turn cooler here and the fall colors ought to be really good starting in October.

 

Potential nuisance? Do you suppose the MONEY that almost 100 people will be spending in the area will be a "potential nuisance" as well?

When the race(s) come to the speedway here in Atlanta, the traffic gets bad, the restaurants fill up - but the fact is, those fan spend oodles of money locally. I never complain - and never did back in Michigan, (I lived 20 miles from MIS).

You'd think that, in THIS economy, people would appreciate groups coming in and leaving behind money. (And the very idea that it only profits the lodge is B.S. - even if that WERE true, think of the taxes we pay up there.)

And I'm not saying we own the road or that this excuses irresponsible behavior - but the fact is, we aren't the ones crashing our bikes on the curves and costing locals money to run their fire-rescue departments.

I was in Cleveland, GA this weekend. I wore a shirt from the resort I stayed at - one lady at the pharmacy I visited saw the shirt and thanked me for vacationing in "her" town! That was the right attitude!

But now that you mention it, if the area IS that booked, maybe the best dragon was back when the road was partly blocked!

Let me know, because chances are, you will end up coming down through Indy or somewhere nearby. We will be leaving in the morning about 5:30 or 6 and driving from Indy to KY to meet the group. Let us know what you decide.

 

And Remember, little old ladies driving white Impalas (doing 20mph) get frightened easily when ever somebody honks and (heaven forbid) gives them the "bird".
So please keep ALL your fingers tightly wrapped around your steering wheels and gear shifts, and maybe I won't get pulled over by the LEO's telling me I had better tell all the "ruffians" in those Crossfires to shape up.
