7th Annual Fall 2013 - Tail of the Dragon GTG - October 4, 5, 6
If it is your first, get ready for what I call the 'amusement park for men'. If you like to drive your car fast and push its limit during the day, while spending the evenings with some of the best people I know discussing said cars and everything else under the sun over a beer, you are in for a treat.
Name tags are good but not necessarily provided at every meet so ya might want to make your own.
Then there are usually a few that have been there before to organize a Friday run for the group who is there
Then most everyone arrives throughout the afternoon on Friday including myself and then we have a drivers meeting in the lodge lobby at 9pm on Friday night with the entire gang to discuss the plans for the remainder of the weekend and also recognize our new first timers to this event.
See ya in the fall and I'm sure you will enjoy this event very much and will be coming back year after year.

I've done the Dragon at dusk and don't mind pushing it a little bit while I can still see. I love Hellbender and Moonshiners at night (especially with the top down).
I got my best runs at night ,,my GPS told me everything, i could do over 100 in In the short straightaway then slow down for the curves.
during the daylight i never went too fast, but at night well i had fun then. i will know a few days before the dragon if i can make or not. jim

The GenCoupes do a 9pm run every night... I have yet to ride or drive with them. But I'll be there Thursday, probably by 2 or 3 pm.
We can plan a Cher-a-haul-a$$ run for Friday - the Cherahala and Dragon are great on Fridays, 'cause the weekend crowd is the worst on Saturday and Sunday!

Definitely will not ride with Boiler! Ha
Pizzaguy, sounds like a plan for Friday - not sure what Cherahala, Hellbender, and Moonshiners is but I am game!

At night in the mountains you can't see a damn thing. It's much better with a full moon, but for some reason the moon is dormant during the weekends we're there. BTW when I say you can't see a damn thing I mean 5 feet in front of you is total darkness.
You must've been going really slowly then, because I haven't found a GPS that can accurately keep up with the bends on the dragon.

This past spring when I ran the Moonshiner on a midnight run to AsheVille with Lisa to pick up a temp rim I found the run interesting although I wasn't a maniac and with good headlights distance wasn't to bad....It was a fun drive both ways
I have run the Dragon a few times at night in the dark and once with a bright moon.
All were cool but I prefer daylight to run it a bit harder with more confidence.

Pics look awesome. I've got to check my vacation schedule to see if I'll have time left, but if so the wife and I are SO there (if you don't mind a newbie, that is).
Take that needed vacation and spend it with strangers who in just one weekend will become life long friends.
You will have the time of your life I assure you.
Agreed. I've been coming to the Dragon every year since 2009 (and sometimes twice a year). I have met a lot GREAT folks! Hope to see you there.
Yea, don't miss out on this one! Fall is a great time to be up there, and is our larger gathering.
Come to think of it, I haven't been up there since the spring event in early April - I guess I HAVE been busy!
Make your room reservations as early as you can - and know that you can always cancel up to about 6 weeks before - but you CAN'T get a room once they are all gone.
(And if you miss the cancel date - SOMEONE on here will be looking for a last-minute room anyway and you can sell/transfer it to them).

You know you love the Dragon when your wife books a trip to the Dominican Republic on Dragon weekend and you say...do I have to go? Can't you take one of the kids? Bummer. As I fly over, I will look for xfs.
Susan and I have just miss one and that was the first one , we like driven all the fine roads but we like seeing all are old friends more , and yes we are all Crossfire Crazy ,
