I live in Asheville so I am trying to understand do u all ride thru downtown or what's your purpose for coming because I have a 2004 Crossfire myself and I would like to attend as well. Also, what time do you all meet and where is your starting point? Finally, I read a place at the Baltimore Hilton. Is this the starting place? Malinda

James - You will see barricades & traffic cones after you enter the Asheville area on 40. There will be traffic cones indicating the Right Lane is closed on 40, so you will have to move to the left. But as you near the turn to go East on 26, you will see a gap in the cones to take 26. Then be careful as there is still construction on 26 for the lane addition work. Safe travels.

Your planning committee is watching the weather closely for our event.
Here's what we see as of now:
Friday is probably going to be a rainy day.
We do not anticipate any severe weather, however If it is raining too much for proper runs, we are still in luck!
The hotel itself is spacious, but also located near a lot of shopping, restaurants and other fun stuff to do.
Rain has happened at past events, and a good time was still had by all.
We will come up with suggestions and form a game plan on this in time for our organizational meeting on Friday morning.
Re: 18th Annual Crossfire Fall Rally -Asheville, NC - 26-30 September 2024
I just found a small puddle of oil (looks like transmission fluid) under the Crossfire when I was moving cars around to get ready for the trip to Asheville. As such, I'm not driving the car up to Asheville & will stay home this weekend.

I will be leaving the Detroit area tomorrow a bit after 8am, if anyone else will be ready around that time let me know and we can roll together. Or if anyone needs parts let me know and if size permits i can bring them.

I just came across my OEM Roadster Top tool / wrench. I have sold the car and still have the tool I bought separately since it was missing in the car. I paid $40 which is what I want to get back. I will have it at the meet if interested.

Thanks, James

All,
We've had quite a few cancelations, and we do understand that. Weather on Thursday evening and Friday looks pretty bad, indeed. Expect to see some road closures (Blue Ridge Pkwy is already closed, pre-emptively) on Friday. However, the weekend's weather report keeps getting better and better, with rain chances dropping all of the time. We still have over 50 Crossfires registered, and several have already arrives at the Hilton Biltmore Park. Tomorrow, groups have made plans ranging from staying inside at the hotel and playing games, to tech work in the parking garage and the tour of the Biltmore Estate. It should be a relaxing day to just visit with Crossfire friends! Looking forward to seeing all of our Crossfire diehards this weekend!

We just heard town of Chimney Rock essentially wiped out & nearly 'no more'! Haven't seen any pictures yet to verify. Village was essentially wiped out by Broad River flooding

I was there Thursday afternoon and eventually left Friday for my own personal rescue hell run. Most of the good information is on the 2024 Fall Rally Facebook group.
I will document my own view. I personally believe that the organizers did their best to make a fun and safe event. So THANK YOU! I arrived Thursday afternoon after three hours driving in the rain. The trip up was not bad. The car did well and my new top held out the rain.
Two fine roadsters
The French Broad river was looking a bit scary and eventually flooded.

That night the hotel had a fire alarm waking me out of bed. My date and I had to go through the fire escape and into the rain. It was not a pleasant time. We never figured out what caused the alarm. The next morning we met for the kickoff meeting at 9:00 AM. We had power and internet right up till the meeting when the power went off and the internet went down. We held a tech meeting at 11ish and had great fun looking at cars and discussing problems.
Since my date and I were on the six floor and there was no power, no AC, no internet, we decided to bail and leave before things got worse. Others decided to to leave. What a great couple!
So we tried 25 business south only to find the way trapped by flooding. We tried over by the airport same issue. After much gnashing of teeth and frustration I decided to go west where there was less damage.
French Broad flooded by the airport
We had to drive all the way to Sylvia before we found power and a working gas pump. After many diversion to find food, shelter, and internet, we said screw it and drove all the way back home.
300 miles and five hours under good conditions.
More like we drove 400 miles between diversions, turn arounds and trying different options.
My takeaways.
1) I should have looked at the buncombe co emergency page before leaving. I fooled myself by stating it can't be that BAD.
2) Having the internet and loosing cell service was a big shock to me. The online services we depend on heavily can be gone in a second.
3) Have a local paper map atlas. Google maps no longer show exit numbers or mile markers. The emergency services text used mile markers. So know which was to go was impossible.
4) Carry cash but not so much some state trouper or local sheriff can't take it all with their highway robbery.

Thank You for the update and Pictures!
If it isn't posted here some of us will never get it as we don't do facebook.
Leaving early got you down I 40. It is closed now; From what I could tell the east bound lanes ( west of Asheville) where sweep into the river.
Re: 18th Annual Crossfire Fall Rally -Asheville, NC - 26-30 September 2024
Appreciate all who came an braved the elements. This is obviously not how anyone wanted this year's event to turn out, and even less so for the people living in and around the western NC areas that were so affected by this natural disaster. For our Crossfire attendees, a whole new camaraderie has formed, and bonds of "survivorship" that are far deeper than casual meeting have been forged. I applaud all who made it and made it out of Asheville for your bravery, resourcefulness and overall kindness with each other. Know that your planning committee was very worried for your safety, and a tremendous feeling of relief and joy came to us with each report that someone made it out OK, and even more so when they reported as being home! Half of you were first timers, and our hearts especially go out to you!
To our vendors and donors for the door prizes, I thank each of you for helping with this year's rally, and look forward to having you again next year. A very special thanks goes out to Rob from @NeedsWings for deciding to trek out to our event, in spite of the potential for bad weather. So many were glad to have you there as a stalwart of our community!
To the rest of our committee, I thank each and every one of you for working so hard to put this event together, and the time and effort it took from each of you to organize the event, setup the runs, print out the maps, descriptions, build the websites, the text information rings, name tags, logos, and so many other things that go into making an event like this successful!
To everyone who registered to go, whether you wound up in Asheville, or not, I thank each of you for signing up, and making this event possible, in the first place! Had we not been whacked with Helene, this was on track to being the largest gathering of Crossfires in recent memory. Don't give up, and don't be afraid of future events! Never in our event history have we had anything like this occur, and the possibility of it happening again are remote. Please do not be discouraged! 2025 will hold a whole other host of events, including the Crossfires in the Ozarks event, Woodward Dream Cruise, Crossfires in Amish Country, and of course the Crossfire Fall Rally 2025! We hope to see you all there!

Thanks for the updates; glad to hear folks grouped together & adjusted plans to deal with Helene & it's impact on living conditions. Hopefully there are other attendees that got out safe & headed for home.
