It's that time! Here are the details for our continuing Crossfire Fall Rallies (18 years and counting!). This year's event will be hosted at the Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park, in Asheville, NC. This event will be a great combination of runs, destinations and events that are both new and some of those favorites we all have! Relocating this year to an area that is centrally located between our more traditional "Dragon" events and the northern Tennessee event from last year gives us direct access to familiar runs, like the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, along with some of the runs we were able to make last year in northern Tennessee, and now we will add runs around Asheville, including the famous Blue Ridge Parkway!

Our host hotel for this year will be the Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park. This hotel is located directly in an area with good food and shopping opportunities, and access to the routes we want to take. The Hilton has a large parking garage, and they will be sectioning off the entire roof of it for our Crossfires! This will give us a safe place to park, gather to talk cars and to line up for our runs. Bringing a trailer? No problem! There is a parking area for those, too. We have negotiated a special rate for our stay of $149/night. This holds the rate the same as other venues of past years, despite rising costs everywhere. We are thankful to the Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park for extending this to us. Here is a Google Maps pin to the hotel:



Details will be coming in the weeks and months until our event, but your Rally Team has already organized some routes, run leaders, places to visit and even our logo for this year is in final stages. This is the largest gathering of Crossfires on the planet, be a part of it!

There is a $25 registration fee per car which covers direct costs of the event, including meeting spaces, door prizes and more. (Note: All funds are put into the event and team members do not get paid for putting this together.) Once you register, you will be given a link to get the special rate to reserve your room at the Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park. You cannot access this rate going directly to the hotel for reservations. Instead, go to: REGISTRATION

The Asheville Airport is only 4 miles from the hotel and the hotel also does include shuttle service back to the airport only 4 miles away !!

This post will be used for specific information about the event, pertaining to logistics, potential issues or opportunities. The items are in no particular order, and just adding to the list as things come up or questions are asked:

1. Parking at the event: The host hotel is blocking off the entire 5th Floor of their attached parking garage for use by our event. This does mean we have a segregated area that should minimize chances for accidents, but it also means our vehicles will be on an open deck roof. You will have to wind through the garage to get to the top. Not a big deal, unless you have a trailer, so be aware. Second there is a height restriction in the garage of 7.0'/2.13m. If you are towing your Crossfire, or have a higher profile vehicle, you need to check your height before entering the garage, and make appropriate arrangements. There is parallel parking on the street, and if we do have a trailer or two that are too tall, we may be able to park elsewhere (will need to work with the Hilton to figure that out). Do not attempt to enter that garage if you are over 7.0 feet tall!

 

Attend our first rally last year, had a great time.

I missed last year. I won't miss THIS year. This year's event will be another first, new location but routes very similar to many we had when we were at Fontana, mixed with variations of last year's event's routes.
I"m excited because my "Pizza's Mystery Tour" from our Dragon days is back - with a slightly modified route, but it's going to essentially be the same as before.

The British run should be REALLY good from this hotel.

AND NOW, anyone who wants to spend the whole day at Wheels Thru Time can do so!

Roberta & I signed up earlier this week once host hotel was identified. Drive to hotel for us is less than 1 hour. Several wineries are in the area for those interested & Sierra Nevada has a Brewery close to hotel (< 7 miles) with a great tasting room.

Major highway construction activity around the exit for the hotel. NC-DOT is adding 3rd lanes on both sides of I26 to handle the traffic along this stretch of road between Greenville/Spartanburg & Asheville. Pay close attention to exit markings as ramps have been altered in this area.

ALL - If you have registered for the Fall Rally, please follow up and make your hotel reservation, now! We have reserved a block of rooms, and they are filling up quickly. The special event pricing only applies to this block of rooms, and when they're gone, so is the event pricing! Your committee will make every effort to expand the block of rooms to make sure everyone can take advantage of the pricing, but there are no guarantees that the hotel will be able to do so. The hotel does have a good cancellation policy, so do not delay, book your rooms now!

Crossfire Vineyard Event - FRI, SEP 27

Checking to see if there is any interest from attendees in traveling to a local vineyard (Burntshirt Vineyards) near our host hotel. We would plan to leave the hotel around 5:30 PM and travel the 16 miles south to the vineyards located just east of Hendersonville, NC. Vineyard's restaurant is open until 8 PM, which should give us ample time to get waited on and/or partake in any wine tastings. For those interest, please respond with a quoted reply to this posting. (Note: By the end of August I will need to indicate group size to the vineyard.)

Crossfire Craft Brewery Event - SAT, SEP 28

Checking to see if there is any interest from attendees in traveling to the major craft beer brewery of Sierra Nevada which is only 6.5 miles from our host hotel. We would plan to leave the hotel around 5:30 PM and travel the 6.5 miles south to the brewery located in Mills River, NC. Facility is one of 2 major breweries for Sierra Nevada and supplies the product range to the eastern USA. The facility is open until 9 PM, which should give us ample time to take a tour (individual choice), get some food & sample the product line. Worth considering traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway to Richard Balsam Overlook, which is the highest point on the BRP Motor Road at 6053 ft. Quite a few tunnels along the BRP to this overlook. Makes for a good photo shoot.

We are 2 months out, and the hotel is filling up fast! As of today, the host hotel reports that there are only ten (10) rooms remaining in our block of rooms at the reduced rate! You must hurry to take advantage of this reduced rate! If the rooms fill up, we will attempt to negotiate for more rooms, but there is no guarantee that the hotel will be able to give us any more at the negotiated rate!

The good news is that this is shaping up to be a wonderful gathering and a great location!

 

Fifty-five cars, and almost 100 attendees, and we're still 60 days out from the event. This is going to be a good one! Members of your planning committee are traveling to the host hotel soon, and will be scouting out new runs and new locations ahead of time, to help ensure the Fall Rally goes off without a hitch! Don't miss this one, folks!
