Default Rear Tire Wear

I replaced the factory equipped Michelin tires at 9,000 miles; the front tires still had at least half of the original tread. I replaced all 4 tires with W rated Continentals. After 6,000 miles, the rear tires are once again wearing at double the rate as the front. My driving is ordinary city/highway. Has anyone else had the same experience; any idea why the rear rubber wears so much faster?

Question Re: Rear Tire Wear

Are they wearing evenly or no.

Tires on the drive wheels usually wear faster than the other tires on a car. When you can rotate from front to back, you can even that out. Since we don't have that option, the rear tires will probably always wear out faster than the front. I have the Continental all season tires and the rears are nearly worn out at 22K while the fronts appear to have a substantial amount of tread left.

Only 9,000 miles on a set of rear PS2's? I have 26,000 miles on mine and should be able to squeeze out 30,000. Your doing something wrong, especially if the are wearing evenly.

Rear tires on this car tend to also drift slightly in a turn due to the short wheelbase nature of this car. The same thing happened in my S2000 at 14,000 miles i needed new rear tires.
