Did I get ripped off??
Did I get ripped off??
My right side headlight burned out. I went to the dealership today to get a new bulb and was charged $21.00. The part that I find ridiculous is that they charged me $77.00 to install it. They said they had to raise the car, take both front tires off the car and take off the front headlight area to replace bulb. I got charged .7 of and hour of labor. I can't believe that is the only way to replace a headlight bulb? If I got ripped what should I do? The owners manual says nothing above to change light.

YIKES
You're not the only person that we've heard STRANGE stories regarding Chrysler service. I'm starting to wonder if all the Chrysler mechanics are morons, or they think the owners are all morons !
Are you sure you're talking about the headlight, or the fog light ! Neither would require taking any of the wheels off... Nor lifting the car ! And you said they had to take BOTH wheels off to replace ONE headlight ? LOL
It's like me telling you I have to open the hood to fill the car with gas !!!

There is an access panel in the front wheels well to get to the fog lights. You just turn the wheels to get to them. The head lights are accessible only from under the hood.
I would say that if you don't complain and get a refund... well you got ripped off. Not a bad price for the lamp though! ...

Ya know, changing stuff like the oil, headlights, and batteries. Basic maintenance like rotating the tires, greasing up ball joints, cleaning or changing your air filter takes about as much time if not LESS than taking it to the dealer or other shop to have some other person who you know nothing about do what ever they please with your automobile and make you pay them to do it. Even if they break something, unless its major 9 times out of ten they will just rig something half assed up to make it look good so you don’t notice it, cause they know you don’t give your car the time of day. I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune, but try to treat your car at least how you would treat a pet you own. Better yet, you should be treating your car like your wife or girlfriend, try calling her a her, like she so wants to be called.
Edit: to fix spelling, sorry worked a long day.

Re: Did I get ripped off??
You had to pay for a burned out bulb??? Am I missing something??? Its covered under warranty why are you paying for it??? I've had 2 fog lamps replaced under warranty because they literally blew up inside the housing when i hit a big puddle of water under a severe rain storm and i've had two head lamp bulbs replaced under warranty before they ended up replacing both my entire headlamp units and its all covered under warranty.
On my other cars my S2000, Audi's and Benz's my headlamp bulbs were always replaced under warranty as well so i don't know why they charged you and why you paid. it's a warranty issue call DC.

Most warranties have exclusions for parts list this because they are considered to be part of scheduled maintenance. About all you can do is hope to get a kind service manager...good luck!
Re: Did I get ripped off??
The bulbs are covered under the warranty of the vehicle if they are refusing to cover them call Chrysler because that would mean them failing to pay for a covered item. Like i said i've had the fog lamps replaced twice in my car and the headlamps both replaced and two headlamp bulbs all replaced under chrysler warranty.
