How to spin tires with Automatic?
Hi All,
My 11 year old nephew wants me to lay down some rubber. Problem is with 2005 Limited with Auto I am not sure what is the safest way to do this... Just a little puff of rubber smoke and tire squeal... I don't want to risk tranny damage or loss of control so need to know what is the best way to satisfy my nephew's request.
Thanks,
Wkdgood

Disconnect the hot lead to the TC ABS system. then you can do all the silly childish maneuvers you like. But with that short wheelbase you risk spinning like a top around a corner under hard throttle. You might want to get some practice in before taking the kid along for a terror ride! You'll know he's had enough when he starts crying for mommy.

If you keep the car straight you will spin both tires.
Enjoy.

You can use soapy water for less resistance, but here's what you do.
Drive up to any brick wall, and try to push it out of the way.
He's 11, he won't really understand the assistance of water. Just lay a little water down first. Power brake it from there, you should be good to go.
I set a personal record in my truck today. I managed to use the entire interstate ramp as a burnout strip. The truck was at 85 when I finally had to let out of it so I could regain grip and get on the interstate safely. The marks are quite impressive.

After reading this I tried my automatic. We FINALLY got a little rain up here in the Pacific Northwest. I just turned off the traction control, and floored it! My first attempt was while making a turn and I did do a little fishtailing, but not sideways anyways like my old charger would do. I made a second attempt at a light, straight ahead. This time the little fella went strait as an arrow. I felt that I could burn the tires for as long as I wanted (I was at about 3,000 RPMs). BTW: this was all with that switch in summer mode. Not sure if I would get the same results on dry pavement.

It's just from the looking at the pictures of the rear diff in the repair manual, I can't see any clutches. It looks like a peg legger, maybe its a generic picture.
But it does make sense. I pulled into a 7-11 today and I managed to get one wheel in the air, due to the angle of the driveway. I could hear the right wheel spinning, but the car continued to drive up into the parking lot...
