Can't Get help with my Brake Pads!
You provided a great deal of excellent advice. I have a call into my dealer. I will ask them what they might charge for just the front pads. That's all I'm having replaced right now. If it's not too terrible, I'm going to have them do this. Otherwise, I'll keep checking or with some positive encouragement, convince my husband he can do the job. He's just so busy right now that when I bring up my car issues, he just rolls his eyes. Like I said, he's not a "car" person.
Just as general information, mechanics do not like to install parts brought in by the customer because of potential problems with "comebacks". If the part fails, the customer usually expects the mechanic to warranty it, even though he select it, purchase it, or make his normal mark-up on the part. Plus, if the part doesn't fit, can he charge for his time to get the correct one?
Even customers who agree to accept this risk up front often balk at having to pay additional charges when something goes wrong. Since the mechanic is in the business to make a living, and has probably been burned before this way, there is not much incentive for him to take the risk.

This is true. I had a friend that owned a garage, and when customers brought their own parts in, he would ask them; if I took my eggs and bacon to a restaurant; do you think they will cook them for me?
He was a funny guy. All kidding aside, there is some truth to this. I guess it would have to be a mechanic who's also a friend.

We have one such guy, and he was out of the office yesterday when my husband asked about the brake pads. I'm sorry to keep this thread alive with my griping. I'm just frustrated...I sure wish I took an auto shop class in high school...cheerleading hasn't really come in all that handy in my adult life!!!
Yes, that makes sense, and I do understand that they need to protect their interests. I am a novice at all this and when I read on the threads that people have had their pads installed for as little as $20.00, i figured I was in business. I bought the pads per the advice of many on here, and didn't pause to think that it would be an issue to have them installed.
I am learning that not asking questions in advance may cause me some worries later on. I suppose I could find a place that will order and install Rotex brake pads and I could sell mine. They are still in the plastic.
Dealer came back with a $100.00 price tag. Origifinally they wanted $170.00, but came down from that once we balked. My husband is thinking he can do this....crossing my fingers.

I went on Craigslist and found a guy with his own business just minutes from my house. He will do the job for $45.00. I printed the how-tos and thought the job was a cinch...
I can't wait to get rid of the dust!

Do you read a car encyclopedia or what? You seem to have some of the best responses when it comes to pretty much anything with this car!
Your motto should be "when Andrew speaks, everyone listens".
