Vette to Crossfire?
Ok, I was at a dealership today cosigning for my sons car when I spotted a Crossfire. The sales person and I started to talk and he mentioned that most are going for about $10,000 off sticker. I have been contemplating trading my '01 Vette. The Crossfire was on my list but quickly rejected for the sticker to performance ratio. But ten grand off...hmmm.
I was going to hold onto to my Vette until fall but I am seriously considering trading now. My Vette has nice power, but it is power I rarely use. However, the heads it turns is unbelievable and the driving experience is very satisfying.
On the con side, it is aging and will soon need tires ($$$) and other maintenance.
I know no one can answer this question but me, but I was interested in your opinions.
Would you trade the Vette for a Crossfire?
Mike

Frankly, I used to have a Vette, and I also enjoyed it very much. But I can honestly say My Crossfire has been the one car that really has excited me the most. It's just a fun car to drive, and if you think the attention you get on your Vette is nice, you will get even more with the Crossfire.
I think you can get more than 10K off. Are you looking at a brand new 2006 Base, Limited or SRT? Coupe, or Roadster?

They had a base on the lot, but I told him I wanted the limited with an auto (don't ask). I am afraid if they discontinue the Crossfire I will take a beating on resale two years from now.
Just yesterday I was in a restaurant and a guy shows up in a 2003 vette. He was really interested in the Crossfire and sounded like he was contemplating buying one...

I considered buying a C4 or C5 Vette before I bought the SRT6. I can't really knock the Vettes, but I will say this; My father-in-law has a 1994 Vette and I would rather drive the Crossfire any day.
If you're worried about resale, buy a used Crossfire with low mileage - there are plenty available (ebay, cars.com, etc.).
Good luck and let us know what you decide.

If you go the used route, which I would also recommend. Check out this one from one of our member's. It's basically new.

Thanks for the opinions. I was very surprised with the leg room in the Crossfire but didn't drive it. After driving a Vette, do you miss the power? How does the driving experience compare?
I agree with FP. I had a 2000 leased Vette. See signature. I like the power of the Vette, but the SRT6 is more the enough. cough cough. It was actually between the Vette and Crossfire one year ago. I have no regrets to buying the Crossfire But I would highly recommend the SRT6. Especially after having the Corvette.

As I said in my 1st post, I rarely use the power, but it is nice to know it's there. I love the feel of the open air so the SRT6 would not be an option.
I know in my heart I would enjoy the XF, but it is just something about the prestige of the Vette family that I can't reject as quickly.
I have also owned a 350Z and RX8 so my other options in this category would be MB SLK, Honda 2000 and the Z4.
I am at that age where I want to drive a lot of different cars in a short period. Average ownership is roughly 1 1/2 years.

I just bought my Crossfire. have it now for three weeks. I used to have a '72 convertible vette in my college days. I just love this car. Its all black on black and you guys are right. The heads turn. Whats nice is you just don't see them on the road. Is a rare car and rare looks. I had $11,500 off the sticker. On the deal. I just couldn't pass it up on this kind of vehicle. Nothing can touch it for that price. To be frank, I don't know why you would need anything more than the standard engine. It fly's. Its more than I need and it handles like a dream. I don't know about resale, but these are sure to be a collectors items in years to come.

The s2000 is a great little roadster. No frills and no torque. But super-reliable, and also very loud and harsh (IMO).
If possible, I would suggest driving the cars you are considering close together (time-wise). I drove an '07 s2000 on a Friday night and a SRT6 the following day. The choice was crystal clear for me after that.
If you're going to miss having aftermarket parts readily available, the Crossfire may not be the right one.
Oh yea, I almost forgot. I have a 16 yo daughter that I didn't want driving the vette. Too much raw power potentially in the wrong hands. And the wife actually agreed.

Where as "flying under the radar" in a car that you seldom see offers a certain amount of prestige and satisfaction since very few people know what it is, and think it's something special. (Which it is!)
I too have always enjoyed owning alot of cars, but essentially I went from a Viper GTS, to my '04 Crossfire 6 spd. and I haven't missed the power difference one bit. Because, as you said, I never used it, even though it was nice knowing it was there. Actually, I still own the Viper, but I haven't touched it since the Crossfire showed up over two years ago. I could sell it tomorrow and not miss it. Not because I didn't like it, but it's more of a "been there done that" sort of thing, and it's time to move on.
If you're concerned about depreciation, and resale, then I would say find a used SRT6 roadster. I believe they will hold their value better than a Limited, or a Base car. Also, I don't think that you would notice the 1/2 a second difference in the 1/4 mile performance between it and your Vette.
If you have read many posts hear on this site, it should be very clear that this car creates alot of passion amongst its owners, and I for one feel the same way. After 2 years with this car, I still enjoy it as much as I did when I first bought it, and I can only say that about one other car. That's why for me, I think it's a keeper.
Good Luck with what ever you decide to do, but I don't think that you will ever regret owning a Crossfire.
