Default Roadster Top Stuck Half Up

BUMMER... I left the house to get something to eat. As I was backing up I started putting the to down. It went all the way down, but the car did not beep. I stopped and tried to put it up. That did not happen. Then it cracked open as though it was going to go up. NOT I turned around and stopped to see if it just needed some help. Not forcing anything, I opened the back. Now it is really getting interesting. The top is down. The rear cover is straight up and it won't go up or down.

Has this happened to anyone else?

In the morning I am going to the dealer. I have a new wind restrictor. I guess I better not get on the expressway.

I tried turning the car on and off, but nothing is working re: the top.

This hasn't happen to me, thank God. Is there a fuse for the top? If so, check to see if it's bad. I don't know what else it could be that you can check.

Good evening,

Talked with a tech at the dealership last month he said that if you take your hand off the controls while the top is going down it has to be re-calibrated... At that time Daimler wouldn't give the codes to chrysler so the car had to go to A benz dealer, had my '04 in today and asked how that was going, he said that the chrysler dealers now have the codes. Hope this helps.

I do this all the time when drying my car to wipe down the open areas, and have never had this problem.

I did not see any specific fuses that were fried. One positive. When I went back to check on the car the upper part somehow had mysteriously closed. Ghosts maybe. I tried putting the top up, but nothing happened. Still going to the dealer in the morning.

The last two or three days the top has been hesitating or not going down initially when pushing the button. I would get out of the car open the trunk to check to make sure everything was in order w/o any obstructions. I would get back in the car and it worked fine. da da da... da da da... The twilight zone. Welcome to la la land vis-a-vis Chrysler Crossfire. This is frustrating.

I sure hope it does not rain in the morning! Then again this is Miami. It only rains in the afternoon. HA HA.

So your roof is still half open? Isn't there a manual way of closing it? I better read my manual on this. I thought there was an emergency manual operation.
I would hate to be in a situation like this and not be able to manually close it.

Cool Re: Roadster Top Stuck Half Up

Check the partition in the trunk and make sure it is in the proper position. You can take your hands off of the controls at anytime (at least in my Roadster Limited) with out any harm to the controls and also the car should be stationary when raising or lowering the top. The partition might have fallen out of place (due to the movement/vibration of the car) while the top/tonneau was in the process of opening. The partition is designed to close it self after 15 - 30 minutes of being open and the top not being raised or retracted. At cars shows I sometimes will leave the tonneau cover open, and after 15 - 30 minutes it will close itself.

Thumbs up Re: Roadster Top Stuck Half Up

This sounds like a similar problem to the one I had.
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/showthread.php?p=133359#post133359

After 2 visits to the dealers (Stratstone) here in the UK the problem, fingers crossed, was solved.

On the first visit the calibration was reset and worked for a few days then the problem started all over again.

The second visit identified the problem as a faulty “HOOD RELAY” and when this was replaced everything started to work correctly.

Hope this helps,
Martyn

You're right, but you can operate the roof while the car is moving as long as you don't exceed 6-7 MPH.

So how did it go at the dealer? What was the problem? Having a Roadster myself, I would like to know what the problem was in case this ever happens to mine. Hopefully not.

I picked up the car Tues afternoon. They fixed the top and installed new foglights. Everything was under warrenty. They said the motor must have somehow got water in it.

I guess I should stop washing my car so much.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AND I DON'T BELIEVE THAT IT HAD WATER IN IT, UNLESS IT CAME THAT WAY A YEAR AGO.

So what did they do to fix it?
