I have droplets of red "stuff" that looks like tranmsmission fluid on the garage floor and since you can't check the transmission I have no idea what it is or how to put an end to the dripping.

Any suggestions? I am taking it to the Chrysler dealer on Monday to work on extending the warrenty but it would be nice if I knew what the $%^&*() it is before hand.

You probably have the bad "o" ring like most of us have experienced.
Take it to the dealer, there is a TSB on this.

 

Taste it, if its sweet it is antifreeze. I notice the antifreeze in my '06 is RED.

 

I'm sure everyone knows you are just kidding when you say taste it...but just to be sure...I hope everyone knows anti freeze is highly poisonous and yes it is sweet tasting that is why it is not a good idea to leave it lying around because dogs and cats will drink it.

 

David: No more helps from me, my first post on this board to try & help & I get a sarcastic reply. I have been auto mechanic for 55 years & a car dealer for 40 years. Putting a small drop on the end of your finger & tasting for sweetness does not a lethal dose make!. I have done so anytime it was noted & am very alive & healthy, thank you. We are not talking about drinking a glass of the stuff. You mentioned small flecks, hardly enough to ever cause anything a problem, & NO I was not kidding, just trying to help you out with your question. Nuff said.

 

Buff5 - I am sorry if I have offended you, please believe that I was not being sarcastic in my reply. I was just trying to promote safety in case not everyone knows that anti freeze is poisonous. You are right, a drop is not going to kill a person but if it was me I'd look for the source of the leak first before tasting something that is on the floor and that is why I assumed you were just kidding. I have learned a lot from this forum and trust me I am not looking to make enemies by posting sarcastic remarks. Again I apologize if it seems I was being sarcastic.

 

Chill a bit. You are experienced and know what you are talking about. To a novice or inexperienced person this would tend to scare them a bit. You need not take your ball and go home. Someone with your knowledge and experience is always welcome and your advice is priceless. A little more explanation might be necessary to those of us without your expertise and experience.

 

When I had the same leak on mine I was able to smell it and tell it was transmission fluid... By the way its a very easy fix they will just replace 2 grommets where the wires come thru the transmission case.

 

David: First things first, apology accepted, now on to reality. When working in the back room of a garage as a mechanic & a leak is detected, or told by the owner of one & a red substance ends up on the floor, any mechanic I have known in the last 50 years has to immeadiatly determine if it is oil or antifreeze. That tells him where to look. As transmission fluid is also red he has to determine what it is, thus the taste test, in earlier times it was easier as anti freeze was mostly green in color. A smidgen on the tip of your finger & a very light touch with the tougne, tells the story real quick, that is how we determine a quick diagnosis of the problem, a bad engine or transmission seal or a loose radiator hose clamp or a leaking radiator core etc. A further visual examination in the area as you now know where to look in, usually confirms what the problem is & then fix it. Anyhow that is how we used to do mechanics, much less thinking today as they just plug in a electronic tester etc!. I think in the case of a leak it would still have to be determined the "Old Fashioned Way" Good luck with your Crossfire, they are a awesome car, to be sure.

 

IAMFIKTWO: Thanks, nice to know if mine develops a trans oil leak. Yes, also I have "Chilled", LOL, I guess when one gets older you have less tolerance for what you see as a simple problem, forgetting, as you say of all the years it took to get that experience that the younger generation does not know. Always glad to help, if I can but I know little to nothing about the new electronics on these cars nowdays as I retired from "twisting wrenches", some time back.

 

Mine was a trans leak. The TSB was helpful (21-002-05a). They replaced a Trew Bushing. It is part number 68021352-AA descripton Plug Adap 21003015.
It took about 3/4 of a day and I had my car back. This service department is picking up steam and getting it done. Much better than the first service I had.

Gentlemen. I have tasted it and it's not antifreeze and there is no oder per say so I think the grommet where the wires go though on the transmission sounds about right.

I will try and get in in next week to get it checked out and if anyone has the grommet TSB number I'd like to have it please. I never questioned your advice to taste it as that's the FIRST thing I did and then smelled it with no luck.
