Windscreen Reviews...
With all of the knowledge you all have on windscreens does anyone have the method of getting to the wires at the tail light? Do you have to remove the carpet and if so how? I thinking Santa may be stopping here with one. Is an on off switch cool or not and does anyone have a dimmer switch I could buy for the light up windscreen or maybe who sell a dimmer that will work? Thanks
There is a very simple access point. The one you showed me a photo of. No need to remove the carpet. There are many that have our products on here that can confirm this.
Its a good pic but I took it from 3 feet up from the tail light and still wonder if the rug clips have to come out to get to the wires at the light area. If I put my hand down the area where I took the pic from I can just touch the light on the taillight but couldn't do any work. It looks light the rug is held in with some button like clips and maybe they have to come out. Maybe someone can view these pics and tell me how to get to the red and green wire. Ron

That's a very good photo of where our red wire attaches. There is not any work really. You just have to get the pliers and clamp our clip into whichever wire you want. It's a tight spot, but I've done it several times myself. As long as you can run that one wire back there you'll be fine. I wish I had a crossfire in the Dallas are to make a video on!

no sorry for the misunderstanding.
There is an opening to the left of this photo where you can see the tail light. That is where I have accessed it in the past.

I just have mine hooked up to a cigar lighter adapter and plug it in and out as I want. The wire runs next to the seat and in invisable except for the adapter being plugged in.

I'm sure you can get a ON/OFF switch fairly cheep or even a dimmer switch you can mount just below or to the left of the LED's. The only problem...if you can call it a problem is when I go to back up at night. I have to really concentrate through the lite windbreaker. From what I understand there's even a switch available that will, once the car is placed in reverse will automatically turn the LED's off temp to allow clear vision. I have yet to explore that................but yeah for me to power the LED's it was WAY easier to run the wires to the fuse panel on the left of the dash...tucking the wires behind the molding and the door kick panel and up behind the left drivers side kick panel. Worked perfect, you can't tell the wire is even there.....

On the reverse lights, I have mine grounded to the wire that the reverse light signals flow through. (should be in the harness on drivers side) So, instead of grounding to the chasis, it's grounded out when you put the car into reverse. = ) This is a solution for this issue of backing up. My roadster is a Sky but it should work the same for the XF.

I've seen a variety of products out there and most companies are producing a really nice product for Windscreens.
I've recently taken on a new philosophy - SHOP LOCAL and it paid off in spades.
I made a pattern for a windscreen and submitted to my local glass place.
They suggested not plexi but LEXAN. It's much less scratch resistant and will not fade yellow with the UV sun rays.
Cost $20/sq ft - 42" wide, 12" tall = $70.00 cut and shaped... Not bad...
Nothing fancy but perfect to reshape the backdraft....
Local food for thought...
