Bad EGR Value
I took my crossfire in for a problem I had to idea how to fix. Every time i would stop the car would just shake like it was camed out. I took my car in and they said I have a bad EGR Value so they are going to replace it. I get a call from the mechanic today saying He recommend a flush out of the engine due to bad carbon build up. I was just wondering if a Bad EGR Value could cause this bad carbon build up. They are wanting to charge me $200 to clean the engine out. Thanks

See this post on cartalk about removing carbon buildup.

Sounds like it might be helpful, depending upon your problem, but there is no way it is worth $200.
thanks,
I bought this car a few months ago with 13,000 miles, it now has 19,000. Its a 2005 lim. It was a rent-a-car before the dealership go it so just maybe with it sitting there for a while over time it just got built up. My Sparkplugs had to be changed once and the check enigine light even came on. It seemed to have the same problem then just a bit worse. So ill get her back today and give her a good run......

That seems a bit soon. The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve's job is to introduce exhaust gas into the intake air stream during low/no load conditions (cruise) where power demand is at a minimum to help cool the cylinders. This cylinder cooling lowers emissions (NOx mostly) and the exhaust gas doesn't burn again. So in theory you will build up carbon in doing so, but 13,000 miles seems way too soon. Unless you're running excessively rich. This explains the plugs, but the smell would be so bad there'd be no mistaking it.
