Default 303 Fabric Guard

I'll have to give this product a thumbs up. I've used this for a few years in marine applications on Sunbrella and was impressed so I'd thought I'd give it a try on the convertible top. This is my daily driver, Florida sun / thunder storms ect. treated in April , yesterdays photo .

Wow. I used Ragtopp on mine & it doesn't look that effective. I'm going to try 303 as soon as it stops raining here. Thanks!

I think the trick is in the application with either product. I've try the saturation approach on sunbrella with not as good results as just applying a light mist, letting dry and then misting again.

You're right multiple applications with 303 is the way to go...Have used it on the sunbrella of over 20 boats in the family.

You ya soak it on when it rains it can run off...sort of like wringing out a wash rag...it will feel dry and look dry but when it rains it will run....looks like oil on painted metal or fiberglass.
Kind of like the look of oil on water..in the right reflection of sunlight.

So yes hes right light mist and multiple coats and the stuff will bead like Fleetwax!

K.K.

303 and RaggTopp are both excellent products and the key to both, or any similar product, is thin coats. That holds true with waxes and sealants, vinyl and rubber dressing, leather conditioners, etc. Heck, it's even true with spray paint!

An alternative to both products, and often locally available (which the other two usually are not) is Meguiar's M71 Canvas Cleaner and M72 Canvas Protectant. You can usually find these at boating supply stores like West Marine so you don't always have to order them online. Of course, if you live in Montana or Kansas you probably don't have a boat store near you

I put on 303 about 5 months ago and it still beads just like the picture on this thread. Good stuff, you can get it at most marine stores, I think around $17 a can. I used raggtopp before which is good, but doesn't last as long or bead up water like the 303.

West Marine
Boat U.S.
Discount Marine
Overtons
Bass Pro

They all carry 303..if its a boat supply place they will have it....even the marina I work at has 303 of course at a steep price markup

I've been using '303 High Fabric Guard, Water and Stain Repellent' over a year now

Stuff works amazing. We didn't find it at any of the car shops but check the local marine or awning stores.

First clean the top off. For any bird dropping use a fine brush before wetting to very lightly scrub off. After that wash the top with a little 'Woolite' laundry cleaner diluted in water. It's design for delicates and a very, very mild soap.

Next wipe the top off with a microfiber cloth. Let the top dry throughly and then follow the '303' instructions. Make sure to be careful not to have over spray on the car. It will come off with a little scrubbing but it's easier to be cautious. We cover the windshield etc with an old towel as we go.

After it dries if it ever rains it makes the water bead off. Unfortunately we live downtown with no garage every time it rains it just rolls r off. Pic attached showing the beading, unfortunately no before pic, just after.

I think I'lll order the "Fabric convertible top kit" here:

303 Products, Inc.: 303 Convertible Top Kits

right now. The above comments and video convinced me. Never had a convertible before... totally worth $31 pluss shipping, IMO. (It's that or drive 80 miles round trip to Bass Pro Shop - who may or may not have it anyway.)

Hey, I know 303 is good stuff.... but will it alter the color of the top any?

I know - odd question - but my top has been garaged for four years and looks factory new to this day (a testimony to the guy who owned the car for four years). So, what will it look like after the 303 is on there - I KNOW the top will resist the water better, but will it change the color? Will it change the texture or anything?

Ok, keep telling me what I want to hear!!! I want to protect it, but yet, it's still so perfect I hate to alter it! (I'v been in the rain twice already - previous owner claimed to have never been in the rain. With only 13,351 miles in four years, I believe him!)

In any case, the video in post 12 is impressive!!!!!!!!!!
