What Maintenance issues have you had with your xfire?

It was. It was so bad that it leaked rust every time it got wet. The paint had to be touched up around the base of the spoiler. My service rep told me that the rubber on the bottom that was supposed to seal it from water falls apart over time. Over time I took as six months on the road and 3500 miles. But they sent my car to a body shop, new painted spoiler and put back together correctly. Although it took 3 months for my new spoiler from chrysler to arrive. At least the spoiler paint has a lifetime warranty. P.S go for my new headlight assembly today

Their cheap, just made of plastic. The reason it took so long the now ex service mgr ordered the reg one then drug his feet thinking I would just go away. He tried to tell me the pitting at the spoiler base was built up wax.
He just didn`t know how us crossfire people are

Glad to hear you got a new one. I don't know if that will still be an option for those with similar problems in the future.
Good Day
I find it interesting to see your list of items. I have about 43K on mine and in the last 10 weeks have replaced
Rear sway bar support
Valve cover gaskets
Front shock absorber cushion
It has been very reliable until then.
The Mercedes Dealer told me that the valve cover gaskets and shock absorber cushions are typical repair items on the 170 chassis. And advised me to make sure I treat the top and keep it under a roof to protect from UV rays when not driving.

I also use a PopTopp for the hot days if she has to stay outside as it keeps the inside cool and protects the rear glass.
The ones that suffer from the glass detatching are usually hot climate cars that spend a lot of time under them rays!
"08 roadsterwith 300 miles bought used. Drove 1200 miles to home with violent shimmy. Dealer replaced two tires on passenger side made in Czeck Republic that were our of round. Replaced battery after six months. I appreciate the tip on the steering dampener and will not look to dealer for replacement when the time comes.
They recalled some 05-06 due to bad tranny pan gasket...ours started leaking at 9500 mi...dealer fixed under warranty, but now the trans shifter is loose (see my thread)...he'll disassemble it again under warranty. That's about it, my gasket is weeping a bit, may as well get it fixed too I guess
"Poor man's 350Z"...good car, great cornering, but a "Z" it ain't.
(Thank God I talked wife into it...she wanted a junk Pontiac Solstice!!...YIKES!!)

Great call on the solstice! I drove one out of the parkign lot of a dealer for a test drive and told him that we are turning around because I could never own this thing. The shifting was dreadful and the car rode like junk.
Question on the issues that you had, do you own a manual or auto? I ask because my manual has been getting a bit notchy during shifting.
Thanks!!

2006 oster gold, limited convert with 8K. just got back from the dealer. check engine light came on. took her to the dealer, catalytic converter gone bad could not repair but replaced at no charge....thank goodness...was still under warrenty. surprisingly only waited one week for part to arrive.
Just a P.S. on my new headlights. One arrived damaged. Dealer can`t find another as they are now on backorder. Hope to receive them before the new one fogs up. Heres keeping my fingers crossed. BTW it took them 3 hours to install .

Got the car back today and the chip strip looks as good as the factory...let's hope it doesn't wrinkle at the tips again. The dealer restored my faith as a good will gesture, they tried to get the scratch over my passenger handle out, but said they would need to go to the ultra fine sandpaper and touch up paint...the service manager said that the next time I am there to let him know and he will take care of the scratch for me.
I will post this part on the Crossfires Across America thread, but this dealer would be interested in setting up a mobile oil changing station for those that need one once they get to St. Louis next year. I don't know his cost, but I'm sure it will be reasonable (in store it is normally $89.99 for Mobil 1) and could help some in waiting till they get here. I have to go back to him around Jan/Feb 2010.

Yes, the half circle black strip. The answer is no, they didn't get it right, they have to order the part and then they'll have to make the paint right then put it on. Not only the technicians, but as the one parts guy told me when I asked them about sponsoring our CrossFires Across America next year, he told me the marketing guy was never so happy as when the last one pulled off the lot.
Not to change the subject too much, but considering they never really marketed the car in the first place, just how much work did he really have?
I'll update when the car is done...if i remember.

I'm on the third battery... under warranty... and one of the remote fobs, the battery dies after 10 hours or so... I sent it in with the car and they said "it was the key" .. We'll see what they replaced when I pick it up... oh... and an oil change in Las Vegas goes for $125... ouch
If I want a service manual that discusses the operation/repair and maintenance of the power top system, do I have any choice but to try to order a manual from the dealer?
I have no problem with it, just wondering - you know, for future reference. A search here turned up a LOT of manuals and I'd downloaded all of them - but none mention the top. I looked under "electrical" and "top" and "powered systems", etc. and don't see any reference to it.
OH, DAMN, meant to put this in another thread... about the top!
