Default Dash Kit

I'm looking forward to adding a dash kit as soon as I can make up my mind between woodgrain or one of the graphite kits. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I and a couple others have the kit, I have the rosewood kit, someone else has the gray marbled wood, and I think they look nice. I personally don't care for the carbon fibre look, it's just not my thing. Look at some of the pics on the gallery and you'll pretty much be able to decide what you like by the look it gives. i think the wood just warms up the inside a bit-others don't like it at all preferring the spartan look. I always say do what you like.

I have the the black Carbon Fiber kit. I did CF to match the trim on my new stereo better. I am looking for an polished aluminum kit and then have it "turned". Its all a matter of personal taste. Some like wood, some not, some CF some not. My only suggestion is get a good one so it doesn't look like contact paper. There are pics in my gallery if you care to take a look.

I personally wouldn't change a thing. I love the stock silver. But that is just me.

I did see a kit once on this site that I really loved. Just do a search because people have posted pictures.

Hey there Mark, Thanks for the mention.
Here's a pic of the "Marble Wood" overlay kit that Mark talked about.

I thought the grey tones would go good with the silver and slate interior of Bridgette.

I like the looks of that "marble wood", but I like oem better. I guess I just want to have a factory original XF many years from now. IMHO, the wood grain overlays look like Mercedes wanna-bes.

That looks like the same kit maker as mine, that's a great price if it is the same people.

I just did the rosewood kit on my 2005 roadster, did not use a couple of pieces, it feels much warmer to me than the silver, I am happy with it, i will shoot some pics and put them in my gallery.

I don't know if my images will come up, but this is a corvette dash that I altered for some car audio gear. The customer sent the parts to star craft http://www.starcraftparts.com/php/index.php to be covered in a carbon fibre finish. I'm not a big fan of carbon fibre, but it looked real and only cost a couple hundred

Are these kits made from wood? If not, what are they?

As Caught in a XFire said - painting the console is an option. Here's a picture of mine: Message - CrossfireForum.org Gallery

Cheers

That is pretty sweet. I really want a double din console like that. I wish someone would make them for resale.

Wow I like that alot looking good, as far as making them there is no money in it all said and done. From a manufacture standpoint too intricate behind the console face

Question Re: Dash Kit

Anyone can give me a quick Do's and don't as I plan to install a wood dash kit and I have found a half dozen offers on ebay.

Which suppliers are good? great? or stay away from? I found a price range from $ 134 to $225 but this is not the primary concern.

I'd like to do it right instead of doing it cheap as the car is a keeper.

they all seem pretty much the same, some offer more parts under the instrument cluster. check to see what the kit comes with. otherwise get the cheapest. I try to match the kit to the interior. The synthetic carbon fiber has silver in it that goes well with the center console and the combination of black and silver gives it a gray effect that goes well with charcoal. I used it on our base model and really liked it. The English burl or marble wood, they call it by various names, would work ok with charcoal, I used it on a slk that I first stripped then re-dyed black in my case the parts were originally oyster, but most are charcoal. On the other hand, I have a Japanese cherry wood kit coming for a cedar/charcoal interiored xfire roadster we just picked up . it's as close to the cedar color I could find. btw way I never used the primer that comes with the kits. It holds fine without and it won't hurt your interior parts incase you change your mind and want to take it off. Save it though, you might want to nail something down a little better if it starts to separate. make sure it's clean, free of stuff like " armor all" etc
