need tires
I'm pushing 33,000 miles and my dealer says I will need new tires soon - can anyone please give me some info as to brands to buy or brands and types to avoid ? Much appreciate any tips I can get.

If you put 'tires' in the search box, you will have all sorts of leads to follow regarding new tires. It goes back to 'you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all the people all the time'. Some folks like Bridgestone, others are sticking with Continental, while others are changing to Michelin and some exotics. You will see prices from $650 to $1000+.
We just put Goodyear F1 GS-D3s all around and are really pleased. The ride is very quiet and you can definitely feel sense it sticking to the road. We have not taken it out in the rain yet however, we are not expecting to be disappointed.
Have fun doing your search.

thanks for the info, I will continue my search and pricing, and yes I would like a quieter ride. My last car was a Buick Reatta and it originally came with very noisy tires (I forgot now what brand they were) but the next set of tires was like night and day as to noise level. Do you have any idea how many miles Crossfires are averaging on the Contenental tires?
Checkout tirerack.com online or call them @888-541-1777. They have a lot of good advice and tire reviews.
Just bought 8 winter tires from them this morning.

I have read of tire changes from 20,000 on up with the common numbers being betwen 25,000 and 30,000.
We got to 23,000 and I needed to replace them in order to get to the Tail of the Dragon in October.

25-30K on Z rated tires??? Or are those all season tires?
Sorry, but you must be driving miss daisy. Z rated tires tires are designed to last 15-20K because of the sticky rubber. I am at about 9K and will only have a few thousand left in mine (falken 452s)....

Oddly enough, there are worse tires out there than them.
They don't really do anything well, to be perfectly honest, but if you don't push the boundaries in any way, and you don't drive in the rain, then they are perfectly fine tires for your driving needs.
BC.
I really like my General Exclaim UHP's. Quietish, almost very sticky, 10k miles and no scalloping. Not the best, but not crummy by any means.
General Exclaim UHP
And, from what I can tell, they are made by Americans, in America, by Americans. Americans made this tire, unless I'm wrong. General Tire: Information from Answers.com

I have 34k miles on my roadster with oem Continentals. They are almost down to the wear bar on the outside but still a couple 1/16ths on the inside. Due for a replacement in the spring. If I drove in rain or snow, they'd have been replaced long ago. I'll probably pop for summer tires in a larger size. See my recent thread over in the SRT6 forum.
Hated the OEM continentels, hated the goodyear f1 a/s even more, and those were 1100$ tires..
went with the toyo proxe 4.. much much cheaper (750$ out the door).. WOW an awesome tire..!

I've got UHPs on the rear of one of my Crossfires (275/30/19s), no complaints.

Road & Track magazine had an article on tires this summer. They really liked the Hankooks, they are not expensive. They came in second in the tests after a Dunlop. They did not test the generals in the comparison. does anyone have the Hankooks? and would like your feedback. I have about 23,000 on my oem Contis, and realize I will need tires soon. I have the Generals on my dakota truck, They do very well in wet conditions, and wear well, but I cant comment on handling, because I don't speed around in that thing at all.

I put Cooper on the back of mine this summer. Nice quiet tires, great traction, both dry and wet. Have made 2 trips with them and am very satisfied. Only paid $200 per tire. And they are made in US!!
