Post Roadster top has a 3 inch weak spot

Hi, has anyone had any problems with there top having a seperating of fabric on the outside of the top. I have a line in the middle of the top that has appeared at the beginning of the summer after it was taken out of storage about 3 inches long. The representative from Chrysler has denied the warranty because they are saying it is a scuff mark and that something had to have been draged over it. I am just wondering if anyone has had a simmilar situation? gjstoy

If the line is in the mid rear portion of the top, Iamfink2 and I both have it. Think it's the result of the top rubbing against something as it opens or closes.

Yes it is mid way down the rear of the back towards to window. It does seem to be getting worse. Any suggestions on what can be done. The dealer did look to see if it was rubbing agains anything . Have you had anyone look at yours? My concern is that it will get worse and then pull completely apart. gjstoy

A couple members have posted the same thing over the past few years but still haven't found out the reason why. The only thing I can figure is when the top is opened instead of the top sections folding in it must fold out hitting the latch hook on the toneau cover scoring the material. All the pics I have seen the mark is in the very center on the top including mine. If anyone else has a thought I would like to hear what they think.

thanks for the information. do you happen to have thoses pictures. I would like to be able to show them to the rep from Chrysler as it will show that I did not do the damage. Since it is getting worse I would think that in a few years it will rip. How long has yours been like this and is it getting worse? gjstoy

i have 2 different 'marks'. one goes across the width (door to door) and is about 6" long in the middle. It appears to be where the top rubs on something like a support bar. the other mark i started to see is a 6" running length wise - bumper to bumper. when i 1st saw this, i thought it was caused by something like a low branch or a person with a dull knife. what i noticed was when the top is going down, this mark is a fold mark. i've tried to 'retrain' my top so it doesn't fold there but it's hard to keep your finger on the button and reach back unless you have 2 people.

No I don't have the pics but they were posted on the forum and if you search you may be able to find the thread with the pics but I will take a pic of mine and post on here. I noticed mine back in 2005 but for the longest time I thought it was from a cat clawing my top so I didn't think there was a problem til I saw the pics some other members had posted. Their marks were in the same spot and about the same size thats when I realized there was a problem. It doesn't seem to have gotten any worse since then. Pat

I did get an old post with pictures and it is just like mine.I really would appreciate a picture of yours. Did you try to get it covered under warranty? I do see mine getting worse over the summer. I am going to represent this to the representative as this is no unique to only me. There were other replys to this as posting.thanks again for your input. gjstoy

For those looking found another thread here that has pics. Appears to be the same problem noted on this thread.

I got that one too.. showed up all of a sudden.. i thought the carwash people caused it.

on the bright side, i've had that issue almost 4 years now and hasn't gotten any worse. so dont think anyone should worry about their top fully ripping.

Yep that's mine as well. same thing, showed up all at once. like i said, it apears that when the top is folding back and down, it creases there. not sure but that appears to be what caused it.

That's good to hear - because I left my top down for about 24 hours - and I saw it.

But there was something else I saw ---- just ahead of it, a light colored "streak" running in parrallel to the next rib, about 12 inches long. First time I've seen that.

I think my scores in my top are worse than any of the pictures I've seen posted.
