Exclamation Help with buying a Crossfire

I am loooking at a 2005 Xfire from a dealer. They are putting new tires on it, 26,000 miles. The exterior is in nice condition with one nick, which they are willing to fix. Will I be better off buying a newier, 07? Will things start going wrong with an 05? Also, what would be a good price for me to start off dealing with? They are asking $17,500.
Thanks

My '05 ltd. has apprx. trouble free 65,000 on it. My biggest problems have been:

The seat heater on the drivers' side quit working.
The cupholder - had to remove the spring to keep it from popping up.
The headlights - UV attacks them, fogging them up so they need constant attention - (like a lot of women I know)
The ashtray - won't stay closed.

Every problem listed with the possible exception of the ashtray, have solutions detailed out on this forum. Do some searching and enjoy!

Where do you live? This is the best deal that I have seen in a long time on a Crossfire, and I would buy it in a heartbeat if I could justify having 2 toys. https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...6-sale-md.html I flew 800 miles to pick mine up when I bought mine. Don't limit yourself to local cars. You can fly one way to pretty much anywhere in the states for a couple hundred or less. My ride home with mine was loads of fun.

Question Re: Help with buying a Crossfire

The model is a Limited, manual, convertable.

Yes, I have been driving around looking. The problem is I am sooo picky about the body shape, dings etc. The dealers always say in excellent shape and I get there and am dissapointed. This one is nice.

Wow.... 17.5k for an 05 limited Convertible with 26k miles. You are definitely in the SRT price range on that one. Someone else chime in if I am off base here, but I think that it is about 2-3k over priced.

With 2005 coupes going for about $12-16k, that sounds like a good price for a roadster. Better than the $35k I paid for mine...but it had zero miles. Just check out all the controls, buttons, features. I agree that finding a ding-free body is important -- also inspect the rims for curb rash. You may be able to knock the price down a little lower since these cars are not good winter drivers and convertibles are not as popular in the snow either.

Tires -- I have 34k miles on my roadster and original rubber. Fronts have plenty of tread; rears will need replacement the end of next summer...almost down to the wear bars. Since I don't drive in winter or rain, I'm not as concerned about the thin tread.

As a point of comparison, I paid 18.5K a few months ago for my 05 SRT convertible. It had 22k and is in excellent condition.

It's a little high. Tell them to knock off $2500 and it's a good deal. Remind them that Car and Driver did not like the car, It's too small, it's too this , it's too that. Thank you Car and Driver. And thanks to all the dumb people that believe that crap, I got a great deall on a great car.

I like that, curb rash. And yes, one of the rims has curb rash. I don't like that either. I also found an 07 with less than 5,000 miles on it. Almost perfect body, but the dealer wasn't dealing. Said they had plenty of room to store it till summer. $20,500 on that one. Maybe should buy that one. It drove like a new car.

Did you look at https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...6-sale-md.html? The SRT option was a $10,000.00 premium over the limited models new. cgocifer is a long standing member on this forum, and it is a known fact that his car is immaculate. To be able to get a SRT-6 for 17.5k with 3k in options is a crazy deal, and would be well worth going to MD to pick it up. The Magnus Millennium wheels that he has on his are some of the best looking aftermarket wheels that you could possibly buy for our Crossfires. Just so you know, I do not know cgocifer personally, so I have no vested interest in making these statements. If I were in the market for a XFire right now, his would be #1 on my list, and I would be doing whatever it took to make it happen. Good luck with whatever decision you make. We look forward to having you as a long time member here.

That price still seems a little off. I bought my '07 Ltd. Coupe 6 speed with 13,500 mi. for 16,900 before trade in. We got the wife's '05 Ltd. Roadster Auto with 37,000 for 15,000. And hers had the factory 7 spokes that had been chromed. Both cars had very good paint and interiors.

yeah, there's nothing like low miles or new car low miles. for me it's the satisfaction and peace of mind from knowing you did all or most of the driving. since this car is no longer made, you need to think out of the box in purchasing one. condition and mileage should be your mitigating factors, then haggle on the price. if you want a low miles convertible, then call tony domiano chrysler in pennsylvania. i think he had 2 or 3 with under 200 miles. tom ahl in ohio has an srt-6 coupe with 2.5k miles for 19.9k. cgocifer's srt-6 is very nice, also. there is also an '08 ssb limited coupe with under 100 miles near me that i could look at for you. also, another item of importance in the inservice date for the 3/36 warranty. the later the car, the later the inservice date. if you find a crossfire on the net that you like (ie; right car, right miles, right price) and can't travel, i can show you the ropes.

Muiscnsurf: Would love info. Not sure if I should wait till spring since the car would be stored now. Don't want to drive it in the winter months. Maybe on a sunny day. I feel dealers will be more likely to deal now than in the spring. I checked out Beautiful 2005 SRT6 For Sale in MD car but it's a cope. I'm looking for a convertable. Will check out your leads. Thanks

Do some research on tires and see if you can get them to upgrade for free if they are looking at stock Conti's. Those tires really only last about 20k if you are lucky; mine didn't and I didn't drive nearly as aggressively as I do now....still sub par to some on here I'm sure.

Good luck.

Well, mine is an 05, sounds just like yours, 'cept it's an automatic. It had 13,500 miles on it and was garaged and a one-owner in Georgia. It was (and is) a "Garage Princess" where it shared a room with a Corvette.

I paid $17,645 - but they were asking $18,999 - so offer them $17,000! Or even a bit less.

Not to argue with good guys like bmorgan, but:

Let me ask you: Is it the color you want? Do you want a manual? ('Cause if you have found a manual Roadster, know that there are far fewer manual Roadsters out there than automatics.) See, I don't know just HOW cheap we are supposed to buy a $40K car, but it seems like $17K for a car with 26,000 on it is a good deal. Go look at what CarMax is asking for these cars, their site is easy to search.

Like I said, I paid $17,645 for mine and am very happy. And one guy here told me, "You paid less than 1/2 what the original owner paid, and he only drove it 13,500 miles. DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT, cause you did".

A $40,000 german-built sports car for $17,000? What's to ***** about there?

I think you're splitting hairs to haggle for better deal. The price is decent so if you like it, buy it.

It amazes me how we coach new buyers to get a better deal and then complain that value of our cars is not going up.

That is so true. And, you and others are right. If it is the car that you absolutely want, then why quibble over what is a decent price as compared to what it cost new. I guess that it is the bargain hunter in me that would try to find an SRT in that same price range. It just amazes me at how cheap we can pick up a car as rare as an SRT right now. Also, I understand that different people have different needs and expectations out of the performance of these beauties. For me, and I stress me............ I know that I would regret buying a Limited if I knew that I could of had an SRT for the same price range. Having said all of this, go with what your gut tells you is right for you. My main point in my posts was just to ensure that the OP was aware of the SRT as an option, and understood the differences between them. Once you have the knowledge, you can make that final decision knowing that you were armed with the appropriate information that you needed to make the choice that was right for you. Good luck, and we look forward to your being a part of the XFire family.
