Default black rubber grommets

Does anyone know where the four rubber grommets go?
I found a thread from 4-15-2004 that was to show location but I could not find pictures,
The grommets are loose in my trunk. Thanks for any info.

One in each front wheel well, on the inside, just in front of the spring. Oblong shaped.

One each side rear, in front of rear wheel well, under car. I'll have to find the pics or take some new ones for the rear.....

those are the shipping tiedown locations. the grommets have no purpose other than to keep debris out of the holes when not in use.

No, but that was the only pic I had that showed the plug. Thanks for filling in the missing rear one.

Funny, I found these in my glove box a few years ago and figured it out myself. I was never sure though if it was right, now I know.

The real funny thing here is:

WHY DIDN'T THE DEALERSHIP INSTALL THESE? PRE DELIVERY ANYONE!

What a joke those guys are, at least the 2 in my area I've had my car serviced at.

Know I just do it myself, I really don't have the time but I can't trust them!

as a 14 yr carhauler i can tell you virtually no dealership reinstalls the plugs. 90% of the time if the plugs are in from overseas shipping we just pull them out and toss em. the cars are rustproofed before the plugs so they really arent needed

Rust proof, come on these things rust like '70's Hondas.

I don't like the idea of damp crap sitting up inside the nooks and cranies. Maybe on a galvanised Audi or Porsche but not this thing.

The company designed these things in the first place they must have seen a need for them to be there.

your absolutely right. why would anyone who has logged over 2 million miles and hauled thousands of cars know what he was talking about? maybe the magnesium bulkhead in the cars will rust out just like a honda will!
those plugs are standard on every car made in the world that has tie downs.

Makes me wonder what other services we as a group can provide for each other at a savings?

I am thinking about a transporter myself....been looking and seeing where there is interest, but so far, most moving companies have a way to haul cars....but if something cheap enough comes along....this may be my retirement gig in the new future...krazy, any training you would like to offer...lol

On my car, the dealer managed to put the back plugs in but must have forgot about the front. So a couple of weeks ago I took the rear plug out and took it to the Mercedes dealership and ordered two more. If nothing else, it makes me feel better about when I have to drive the car in bad weather.

This was a fascinating thread. Always enjoy learning something new. I'll have to check all my XFs in the spring, when they come out of hibernation.
