Default Soft top not moving need to reset PTCM

First here’s the bad news.

I did not complete the closing of my soft top, and when I tried to continue, only 1-2 minutes later, the top wouldn’t move.

I took it to the dealer and had a scan done and was told the car needed two assy. The tonneau cover latch assy and the rear bow latch assy. Cost $1400.

I asked what is wrong with the assys???
The switch is shorted to ground.
I checked both switches with a continuity meter and they change state showing no short to ground is possible.

I believe the dealer sees a chance to make some money. I am looking for a shop in Long Beach, CA area that can sort this out with me and not just do what dealers do best----

Any idea's out there??

Hi Paul, try sending forum member rcompart a pm explaining your problem. Rudy is the guru when it comes to the operation of the roadster tops and a great guy also. I bet he can help you. Good luck.

Sounds like another dealer that has no clue about our cars.
I'm guessing that they are full of bs-Flag.gif.

Time to get someone else to look at it.

Paul, give me a call so we can get this figured out for you. My number is 952-292-4477 and I'll be up for another hour or two. There are a lot of things that your top could be doing and I'd like to run over a few things with you and figure out where we are really at with it and what is causing the issue. Sounds like the dealer is looking to play swaptronics and make a few bucks at the same time.

Failed electronics sound suspicious to me, too. I stop my top halfway regularly so I can clean the inside of the rear window and the tonneau area. On occasion I get distracted and after a while it releases and it sinks back down into the tonneau. The cover (body shell) stays open even though the top is in the full down position. But this has never caused a problem closing it later.

Since I'm in Southern California, what dealer did you go to? there is a good one on Beach Blvd, in Huntington Beach.

Paul, Hopefully they figure this out as the latches are not cheap. $391 is my best price on the one just behind the bulkhead and I'm still waiting to find out if I can even get the one in the cover as they are showing zero in stock in the country. Sorry I wasn't able to help you get it figured out last night.
