Another stupid question from Learnin
First time I've owned an automatic with manual select option. Question. When manually shifting, does one back off the pedal like in a regular manual transmission?

It has a little brain that does the shifting for you...but now you can tell it when to shift. So just leave the pedal on the floor and go. It will upshift or (not) downshift when it needs to, to protect itself.
Just as the others have said, no need to back off the gas. I will say that the autostick on this car is the best that I have driven. I constantly use it while driving in town. I dare say it is almost as good as a manual, but not quite.
Thanks to all. Now I can enjoy the shifter without worrying. I am very glad to have found this forum. It has been of tremendous benefit to this rookie. Already, I have changed my own air filter, cabin filter and replaced a brake light because of advice I have received on this forum. I'm sure I've saved a bundle by doing all of this on my own....thanks again.
If you are coordinated enough you can actually rev match down shifts like a manual transmission. I've mastered it, but it took a while. I guess the engine will free rev for a split second as the torgue converter unlocks.
Not to change the subject... but most automatic cars now have the auto shifter. They say in the future people will be less likely to know how to handle a clutch pedal. Kind of makes you wonder.
IMO, if you can't drive a stick, you never truly learned to drive... I know I have an automatic, but it isn't by choice. The SRT is the first car in many years I've owned with an automatic...
An automatic is kinda like the doggy paddle... It's kinda like swiming, but not quite.

Oh well, at least the Crossfire has a really good autostick. The SRT more than makes up for it's lack of a third pedal in many ways.
