Mark, I thought you were going to keep your roadster and get a coupe 6MT to keep her company??

If I recall correctly, when you first joined our ranks, and stated you were most at home in manual cars, I told you to buy the stick, because the ease of the auto gets old, and when you are doing Dragon runs, damn it, you need a clutch under the foot

Well John, who knows WHAT I'm going to do! I spent the past several days learning about what I want, what I have (in my little Roadster) and what is out there.

Went off and drove an 06 Red Roadster - Special Edition tonight. I learned a LOT! The SE is quite a unique Crossfire. Now, I understand the SE was a "Roadster only" thing, is that right? No SE Coupes, right everyone?

Ok, take a look at this car...

So, what IS a "Special Edition Roadster"? Well, it has the base's black trim around the windshield, no fog/driving lights and an all black monotone dash and interior trim. BUT it DOES have the Limited's Chrome door handles and fake-air-vent-thingys on the side!

Problem is, it also has the base's no-woofer audio system, black air cleaner housing, and cloth seats. This trip taught me something: I sit so high in this car's seats that I can't comfortably drive the car unless the top is down - and even then I am looking at the window frame. Thing is, I do NOT remember sitting this high in the Base Roadster I drove tuesday night. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT? Did I just not notice this? And how could I not notice this? I mean, people, I could NOT drive this with the top up and even with the top DOWN I was looking at the windsheild frame. ALSO, I was so high I could not comfortably see the speedo or tach.

So, no SE's for me. Or did someone modify this car? Why did I not sit so high in the Base Roadster tuesday night???????????????? And last week, I drove a base black Coupe and actually remember being comfortable in that car. Is it me or is there something odd about the SE seats? I looked at both this car and mines side by side, the SE's seats sit about 1 1/2 inches or more higher.

Oh, one other thing... are those not SRT rims?

Sure is an odd mix of mostly base model stuff, with a little chrome from the limited and rims from the SRT !?!?!?

But why did I sit so high in it? Never had that before - is it just an SE thing?

So totally weird, and a shame, it's a low miles 6 speed Roadster that drove, shifted and looked good. I guess if it isn't a LIMITED Roadster, I don't want it.

Maybe the previous owner was a short person and had the seats modified. I would try another if you find one. James

Pizzaguy, This may be a stupid question but are your sure you had the seat lowered as far as it would go.

Something strange there. I found the heated leather seats in the limiteds were higher than the cloth seats in the SE. I'm 6'1" tall and preferred the added headroom.

Pizzaguy, I have an 06 SE just like the one pictured...first there is a lever on the left side that you pull up and use your weight to swing fwd or back to raise or lower the seat...try it and see if this works for you... 2nd these are rims similar to the SRT but they are gray/charcoal shaded in between the spokes where the SRT are all aluminium (no paint). I have had my XF for over three years and still love to drive it as much as when i first got it...3rd even though it is not a limited it does have the same engine and you can go just as fast as in a limited....4th this particular model (SE) only came in blaze red and from another post there is a unconfirmed number that they only made 140 of this particular roadster; so it may end up being more unique in the long run.

here are some other XF roadsters with a stick at cars.com...enjoy your search: Used Cars for Sale: Listings Near 23238 - Cars.com

Pizzaguy-
The base seats have 2 settings on seat hight.
There is a Handel on the left side of the seat that make the seat go up & down, you need to be in the seat to bring it down.
I like the base seats more then the limited, not as hot &
you don't slide around when cornering hard.

Thanks everyone. I'll be driving by there tomorrow and try again. Could not get that lever on the left side to do ANYTHING.

THANKS GUYS, I'm going back to check it out again!

And there's MORE leg & head room!

You are just saying that to get me to sell you my Roadster

(Never trust a guy who types in all blue letters....)

(The stupidity (or ignorance) may not have been in post 26, but in ME. )

You need to be in the seat & (this sounds silly) bounce down in the seat. You can get some nice leather seats from a SLK.

99 Mercedes SLK Set of Black Leather Seats OE LKQ: eBay Motors (item 140428730892 end time Aug-16-10 04:37:56 PDT)

OR Covers

98 99 00 01 02 03 04 Mercedes SLK Leather Seat Covers: eBay Motors (item 380251845535 end time Aug-16-10 13:37:56 PDT)

OR $$$

06 07 08 09 Mercedes SLK280 350 Bucket Leather Seats : eBay Motors (item 130412118501 end time Jul-26-10 17:59:05 PDT)

Just thinking

Once your get that seat in the lower position your going to be much more comfortable with the seating position with the base seats. My two sons are 6'3" and 6'6" and are able to drive the X-Fire with the travel of the base seats. Good luck

Thanks guys, But I found a limited red 6 speed roadster JUST CLICK HERE!!!!

Only 85 miles from me. I have about 3,000 more miles on mine and it's a year older. WOnder what trade in value they will offer? Of course, with THEIR price, which is $5,000 over NADA retail, we KNOW they are "Out There"....

Why does my car have to be on the lot of a dealer trying to get $23,000 for a limited roadster? A USED ONE, at that!
At least I KNOW no one here will try to buy it out from under me!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!

That is an obscene price for that car.
Off by about ten grand.

It would be great if our Crossies were worth that kind of money.

They ain't

Don't go near that one.

What would it hurt to talk to them? The worse they will do is try to get $23,000 for it and offer me 10, 000 for mine!

Well, fact is, they are crooks worse than the Chrysler dealer up in Morrow, GA. (Do I dare say the name Landmark? OOOPS - didn't mean to let that slip!)

Well, my PM to you was about a 6 speed red coupe, at a dealership in Tucson. (Still looking for a Roadster with a stick, but found a coupe with a stick... )

I will be in contact with them tomorrow when they open and do a carfacts on it - then we go from there.

Gotta tell ya, this one MIGHT be the Coupe for me, unless I find out it's had like 7 owners, all in Michigan or some other "Salty" state.

Here's a gem.

Pricey but rare colour and VGC.
Chrysler : Crossfire: eBay Motors (item 220644542066 end time Aug-03-10 17:50:40 PDT)

I'll bet there isn't twenty of these around in the stick shifter version.
