Cool Opening Roof in motion??

Hi there,
Can anyone advise if the roof can be opened/closed when the car is moving and if so, is there a cut off speed sensor? I've just seen a you tube clip of a rally and at slow speed 2 roadsters were opening their roofs but didn't want to attempt it until i sought advice first.
Thanks
Danny

I do not own a roadster but will chime in anyway. Never open/close the roof while in motion. What does it say in ther owners manual? I do not think it would say it is OK to open/close while in motion. Just my $0.02 cents worth.

I do own one, and yes you can move slowly, but here's the deal kid. The tops are complex, and you moving and jingling the roof around while it is closing is just asking for trouble. I think you can see rain coming without waiting for the last second to close it. It isn't all that slow, less than a minute. But it could take hours or even days to fix if you break it. Now, Dad has spoken....don't be moving and closing the roof or I will take your keys... Good luck...

Ah many thanks for the advise friend. I'm a brand new owner of a used roadster and just finding my feet with it. Love it to bits too. No idea where to find a silver stereo to replace the standard dated one either. All decent head units are all black!

According to Owners Manual, "Top operation is allowed up to a maximum of 9 mph (15 km/h). Above that speed, top operation will cease and an audible warning will sound."

Check out the Sony MDX M-10. Silver face and reasonable price.

Thanks 'Metrocop' for the intel and thanks "Dad" for the search facility advice. One thing I found in there was a poor kid who disturbed wiring changing the head unit and his spoiler now goes up at 5mph! I think i'll just leave well alone for now

Search the 'marine radios' at Crutchfield or Sonicelectronics - plenty of choices and MOST are silver.

There should be no problems if you get the correct wiring adapter and antenna adapter.

DO THE CAPACITOR MOD !!!! ( search for it on this forum )

Here's a pic of the Alpine unit we bought for DC'XFire's Roadster.

That's the Alpine iDA-X100M (M stands for marine use, sealed better against water-great for a roadster.) Also works with i-Pods.

I open my top regularly while driving out of the parking lot at work and have never had any problems. The top mechanism will function up to 9 mph - if you exceed that speed, the top will stop moving and beep at you, requiring you to slow down and push the down button again.

I have the one-touch top module, so I only have to push the button for about 2 seconds, then the module takes over.

Bet that "audible warning" sounds just like my panicking wife screaming at me for trying the down roof maneuver while driving slowly toward the garage.. Worked without incident, except for the ringing in my ears..
