Default Tonneau cover flaps

Hi, I have just gone to put the top down for the second time this year and both flaps which extend out of the tonneau cover have failed to open.I am guessing they have seized up over winter. My question is are they just cable operated (which i guess they are from what i can see) or is there some hydraulics or sensors involved.I just think it is strange that both have gone the same time. Many thanks...

mine seem to be binding. The cable and the flap hinge / spring. There’s no hydraulics / motors involved. Both started binding at almost same time. Tried WD40. Little improvement. May have to contact Brian H. He’s great…

For those who's cables aren't broken yet : put the top half way so that the flaps are pointed straight up, then lube the both cables by putting the lubricant above the the point where the wire enters into the cable letting it run down the wire into the cable housing also lube the hinges on both flaps. Also check out the photo below You might want to use penetrating oil first then follow up with a lubricant that will run down the cable housing

Don't lose your tonneau flap covers . I wedged a hard piece of rubber right behind the clips that holds the tonneau flaps on so they won't come off due to vibration + years of bumps and operation

WD 40 isn't really a lubricant and won't last long. I would use lithium grease. It sprays like WD 40 but will last much longer.

A number of years ago, one of my cables bound up and I was able to purchase two new cables. I used a product called Cable Life and also purchased a cable lube tool; both available on Amazon. I lubed both cables until the fluid ran out the other end before installing, no issues since. I don't believe the OEM cables had any lubricant applied. You can lube your cables by disconnecting the cable at the tonneau flap and use the above mentioned lube tool and Cable Life to fix this problem, as long as the cable is not damaged. If the cable is damaged disconnect it and take it to a motorcycle shop or convertible repair shop and ask to make you two.
