How old is your battery? A weak battery reeks havoc on the fine automobiles.

Actually the battery is 7 years old. Orig batt. Turns over fast and fine. If it's weak on cranking amps would that affect the starting on a German car?

I have no idea, but just guessing that the car may be taking a lot of the available power to turn the starter and leaving little to power up other components. A starter is practically a dead short with the power it uses turning over an engine.
A battery may have nearly another year on it over the model year of the car.

Very good point! I think I'll order a new battery tomorrow. The car runs perfect. I bet your right, it's the battery. I'll post again when I replace it and see if it fixes the problem. Its time anyway, 7 or 8 years for a battery is a long time. It's the orig white color battery, used in Mercedes and BMW.
Thanks for the help.

Question Re: Hard starts

Wasn't the battery! Battery tested perfect. I don't know why it sometimes takes two tries to start the car? Let me know if any ideas? Thanks, MD

Testing for some reason is not good enough.
The old battery tests fine (for cranking) but still can cause issues on these cars. Dont know why but it has been proven.

Your battery is old enough to be replaced regardless - eliminate the problems headed your way and just replace it. If there is another issue at least the battery will be eliminated as cause. IMO

Most likely one way valve in the fuel filter.

I ordered a new battery, I will be having it installed this evening from Advanced auto parts. 36 month free replacement, 84 month battery, their best battery.
I'll repost in a few days too update if this resolves the starting issue.
Keep in mind the car always starts, it just may take two try's. Turns over fast! Just won't start on first try sometimes. The CCA (cold cranking amps) tested perfect, as well as the Volts being produced were above the specs of the battery. But we will see if a new battery does the trick? Thanks again for your input, I appreciate it. MD

OH GOOD !!!
Not the car I was thinking it may have been. There was a SRT6 for sale on Ebay a while back that had a blown motor that had been replaced with a NA motor with the supercharger added. That car had a hard start issue.
That one will be someone elses problem.

Does the new battery need to be vented? The new one from Advanced auto parts is maint free. With no vent. Is that ok?
Anyone know?

If it has no vents, then it has no vents. Odd.

My replacement had a small hole on one end and a new little adapter - thingy that plugged into the battery, I remember connecting the vent hose to the adapter. "Done"

There is a vent hole at each end at the top, the end closest to the firewall should have a plug in it. The hole towards the front should have the white catch basin from the OEM battery installed in it just in case some liquid comes out. My replacement batteries have only come with one plug, I have always saved and used the OEM catch basin.

These batteries breath vapour and gases when hot or when being charged, the vent holes relieve internal pressure. The battery will probably have six unscrew-able plugs in the top. After a while I think it is smart to see if the fluid is still up to the bottom of the fill holes. This especially true in hot climates as exposed plates are not a good thing to have.

Some batteries leak gaseous vapors around the posts and those red and green felt washers are good to have to neutralize the acid and prevent erosion and damage to the clamp and clamp connection. If you have ever had damage to the clamps then you will find that the vapor escaping around the posts is the culprit.

Prevention is cheaper than the cure.
