Tool
My owners manual says I should have a tool that I would need to manually put up the top. I didn't get one with my used 05 roadster. I looked in the parts list and did not see it, I might have missed it, so I called the dealer to see if they had one. At first they didn't know what I was talking about and had to call me back. They called me back a short time later and said that the tool had changed and I would have to replace my handle for the new tool to work. Total cost for handle and tool would be $500. I will read my owners manual again since I don't recall needing the too for the handle?? They never did give me a part number for the old tool. Does anyone know what the part number is for the old tool?
Thanks,
Dave

HANDLE? What HANDLE?
You need the "open end wrench" thing to unlock the decklid, and an allen wrench to lock/unlock the rear bow from the decklid. (See the owner's manual section on manually raising and lowering the top).
You can get the allen wrench at any store that sells them - I believe it is a 5.5 mm or something like that. I can't go check, because I had to park my car in the front of the subdivision because they are sealing the pavement here! I'll check tomorrow for you, if no one else chimes in first.
Do not call the dealer back or ever go there again.

RE: pizzaguy
I don't know what they were talking about when they mentioned the handle. I have 5mm allen wrenches but if it is a 5.5mm I can pick up one easily and I have some bicycle spanners, one is 32mm, and the other is 18mm. I don't suppose the tool has a part number on it. In the owners manual they show a diagram of it with a number below and off to the right of it and it is 8119a19e which seems to mean nothing.
thanks

The "special tool" is made to remove the front lower grill pieces for access behind, and has a 10mm open end wrench on the other end. I don't have a pic of it, but I know that some members do, and could post it. Be that as it may, a thin 10mm wrench (like one from a bicycle kit) would probably work as long as it fits between the toneau cover and the body on the roadster. the process is explained in the owners manual. A coupe has no use for the wrench end. A regular screw driver would work in releasing the lower grill pieces.
Go to a GTG and get your eyes on the actual tool.... I can't believe you cant find it SOMEWHERE. It's just an open end wrench, but it DOES have to be kinda THIN.
And I have NEVER heard of there being two versions. (Insert grumpy, unbelieving face here.)
Yer welcome.

I remember a time on this board that the 'tool' we were talking about was often me.
Anyway, 180's post tells us that you need a 10 mm wrench 1/8 inch thick, and yes, the curve is important 'cause of the way the nut-thingy sits in there.

RE: Alaxfire
Thanks for the info, Looks like Lamberts is in NH, I'll give them a call. I did find a place on line that had one and the price was $121.00 plus shipping, it must be made of gold.

Did you ever find the parts number that you were looking for. That tool is in case your top fails to go down automatically you can use this tool to manually lower or raise the top. It is normally kept in the glove box, but i guess someone wanted it more than you did.
RE: JOREL
Yes, I have the part number for the tool and I have found a couple of dealers that have them in stock but they want $120.00 plus shipping. The tool list for $156.00.
Thanks,
Dave
