Default XF Trailer

The other day I saw a Prowler towing a custom trailer made from the back end of another Prowler. I really liked the way it looked and am thinking of doing the same type of thing for my Crossfire. Has anyone seen this done, or know of a Crossfire Roadster back end that I could pick up for a reasonable price. It sure would come in handy for our golf clubs on a road trip.

I don't know what trailer you saw, but there was a Prowler trailer available from Chrysler (Plymouth). No need to have a custom one made.

Thanks, I don't think I will have any trouble designing/building a hidden hitch. The hard part will be finding a salvage Crossfire at a reasonable price.

What he was trying to say is that prowler trailer you saw probably was not custom. You could order one from chrysler when you bought your prowler.
Obviously none were offered for the crossfire so you would have to custom make one yourself, which I have thought of on many occasions. Its a lot of work making one look right though. It would need to be very very light as well for easy pulling. It may be better to make one of fiberglass than to start off with the back half of a car. Just an idea anyway.

Doesn't the car manual state very clearly not to use a trailer. The total weight for passengers and luggage is 400 lbs!

It actually says that the load is limited to 400lbs and towing is not recommended. What is easier on the car, having the load in the trunk or behind the car on it's own load carrying suspension? I personally limit my total trailer weight to 500lbs and tongue weight to 50lbs.

In my opinion, a crossfire rear end trailer would weigh far more then the crossfire trunk pans should be asked to carry.

Would be cool if you can work it out!

I agree that if I can keep the tongue weight down and strip out everything I didn't need from donor XF it will work. So if anyone hears of a XF back end for sale let me know.

If you are determined to go this route, it would be cool to get a ROADSTER rear end with the tonneau still functional, then you'd have a power opening lid.
( also you'd have the neat little wing and the LED brake lights )

The only way I would attempt it would be with a roaster.

Wrong...you can have 2 large guys, and still have some suitcases which will be over 400 lbs....and it still gets 27 MPG on the highway.....

Well after all of this does anyone have a soluttion? i'd like to pull a small trailer behind my XF. Was thinking about a fiberglass motorcycle trailer (not one to pull a motorcycle, one that is pulled by a motorcycle... ;-)
I saw a Solstice pulling one a while ago and it would make road trips much easier.

Thanks!!

Yes, it can and has been done. I tow a motorcyle trailer with my race gear, jack and full set of tires with no issues. You will need to build your own hitch assemby that bolts to the truck pans.

So is the hitch assembly only bolted through the trunk pan? No other support?

Thanks,

jim
