convertible top closes but doesnt open
Here is my first problem with my week old 05 xf
I can open the top manually by unlocking it from the inside of the trunk with no problem at all and I can close it back automatically by pressing down at the button.
So i took out all the plastic parts from the windshield area and checked the sensor on the passenger side, works.
I disabled the trunk spacer sensor so it thinks that the spacer is on the place all the time.
What else can I do?
Ohhh also, once I put the 'top' down, i started to put it up little by little and open it back and forth. I can put the 'top' up about %80 and I still can open it back by the button, but if I put it up all the way, it doesnt go down anymore.
Sorry for my broken English
And
Thanks for the help in advance

I had this problem when I got our car last year...check the switch on the driver's side, about mid-way...if it's busted, the top won't work...
+1 to that - was just looking it up in the schematics ......
Thank you for the fast reply!!!
So I wasted my whole night and at least 10 beers, searching for the problem on a wrong spot!
hahaha
Can you please tell me exactly where the switch is?
I am adding pictures of the spot also.
Thank you again.

You will have to have the top open, at least the first little bit to see it, but it's on the passenger side, about midway, between the top and the frame...it's a sliding switch...
If you sit in the passenger seat and open the top, turn your head to the right about 45 degrees - you will be looking almost directly at the switch.
Release the top from the winssheild frame, push it up and away from the frame.
Get out of the car, go around to passenger side.
If you look at the top just above where the passenger's head would be, you will see the switch mounted on the frame and it's plunger will be sticking out, because the top is open.

On the bright side.. I found you a new avatar!

I think I found the switch thanks to your help,
I was checking out the switch but it didn't make the 'click' sound so I will be replacing it tonight and see what happens
Ohhh BTW, my pictures are not upside down, everything else is

Either comes from 'prisoner of mother England' or pomigranite - a reddish coloured fruit that native Australians (Aboriginals) thought had a similar colour to the skin of sunburnt Brits.
Not meant to be an insult (as some English think for some reason), merely a nickname for our less-tanned former rulers. Nicknaming everything is very Australian.

So, I opened the top half way and took the switch out, connected the cables together without putting the switch back, and everything works perfect!
Thank you for all the help

SOMEONE did publish it here in a thread about a year ago... their switch had cracked/fallen apart.
But to find that post...

I will check it in few hours for you, i also have the pictures of it, which might help, but you don't have to replace it, that switch tells the system to don't open the top unless the hook(i don't know how to call it, the thing you turn to push the top up in the beggining) is disengaged, since I disabled the switch, even if i touch the top down button by mistake, it is trying to open it, which is not harmful as I experience yesterday....i opened/closed probably about 50 times, and did all the stupid stuff which 'might' hurt the mechanism, but nothing happens at all!
Actually, there is a switch in the windshield head liner that, once you turn the handle, tells the BCM to lower the windows and tells the TCM that you have unlatched the top.
Then, the switch you disabled works in series with the switch in the trunk - if the trunk divider is deployed AND the switch you bypassed is closed, the pump is allowed to run.
THe purpose of the switch in the trunk is, of course, to assure that the divider is positioned properly. The switch you bypassed is to assure the top is released completely from the windshield frame. That is, it assures that the top is "pushed up" from the frame and is ready to fold properly into the storage area.

BUT !!! Seems the dealers are extremely proud of this part :
Prices range from $97 to $135 ......
