Default Heated seat "dealership" repair

Hey Gang,
Just thought I'd share my recent experience. I have a 2005 Crossfire Roadster that the driver side heated seat stopped working. I just purchased this car in May of 2013 and fortunately I purchased the extended warranty. So, I took it to my local Chrysler dealership for repair. The first estimate was for $5,800.00. NO THIS IS NOT A TYPO!!! My extended warranty company was NOT willing to spend that much for a heated seat repair. Chrysler reduced the cost of the parts to ease the pain. The final bill for the heated seat repair which included all new leather seat covers was $4,400.00 (FOR ONE SEAT). I only paid $12,500.00 for the car!!!
I'm a bit nervous about the cost of future repairs for this car!!!!
Anyone else has a similar experience with their heated seats?

The DIY thread on here states about $35 per seat, if I recall correctly.

Anyone else has a similar experience with their heated seats?
When purchasing my '05 back in '09, I presented a list of repairs needed to seal the deal, this of course after my mechanic and I inspected the car. One of the things on the list was to repair the passenger seat which did not heat up. I was told afterwards that it was the single most expensive repair made on my list and it turned out to be some module with a dealer part price of around $500. I was told it was a module found somewhere behind the dash....I didn't ask any questions, nor did I care...it was fixed is all that mattered at the time.

That' my opinion as well tonygg. I didn't care what it cost, just wanted it repaired. After reading what it would have taken to repair, I cant believe that Chrysler didn't do the repair instead of replacing the entire seat! I guess it was easier?

Hmm. Thinking about selling the two seats in my roadster (heaters work great) for $11k and then buy another Crossfire.

Could that be why they are so often called Stealerships? Hmmmm, I wonder.

It never stops, does it? Thousands of dollars to "repair" something that we can do for under $100.

I think it's called greed. Look at the price of gas & diesel or ammo or guns---another rip off. Companies aren't happy w/a normal when they can gouge. It's all over this country w/folks trying to take advantage of one another.

Had mine fixed twice under the extended warranty. Don't think it would have cost anywhere near what they're telling you as the kit is not that expensive. It's usually just a broken wire. These heaters are no different than what you find in an electric blanket.

Since we're on the subject of outrageously overpriced repairs - I had to replace a leaky rear tire because, according to Firestone, it couldn't be fixed. One Bridgestone Potenza tire cost...are you ready for this?...$424.00!!! Almost two years ago when I bought my Crossfire, I also bought a tire road hazard insurance, they paid for the tire! My seat heaters never have worked, but living in south Texas, I don't even need 'em.

I need to get mine fixed. I love my seats and I would hate to tear into them. I just inherited my 2005 roadster with 123k miles. Im in Raleigh NC so if anyone in this area wants to give it a shot...
