Default New Owner - Help Please

Hi all, I'm the proud owner of a 2006 crossfire 82,000 miles on the clock.

I absolutely love the car!

I have one issue though. Once the car is nice and warm and particularly after driving fast - I'm experiencing what can only be described as a knock/low pitch tick coming from under the car drivers side. My oil filter is leaking so slightly witch is due to be change with an oil change next week.

I guess my question is; Is this knock / low pitch tick normal? Will it go away once oil filter / oil is changed? or do I have something more serious to worry about?

Please help, I'm a total novice to Chryslers, Mercedes and have never owned a v6.

I'm totally clueless.

Your help will be much appreciated.

is it a lifter ticking noise ? Maybe time to add some cleaner to the oil just before you change it ???

That, and just do an oil change - 8 quarts Mobile 1 0W40 and a Fleece filter and see how it sounds.
Who knows what oil is in it, or when it was changed last.

My Evap purge solenoid ticks sometimes. It's kind of loud. Enough that you can hear it through the hood when standing out there.

Well it's hard to say based on your description. Any chance You can make a video with sound and capture the noise? I'm in the sticky lifter camp at this point. Seafoam and an oil change might fix that.

Thanks for the replies.

On start up no noise apart from a slight whining noise that also happens on acceleration in neutral, but goes away once I drive away - I thought this was normal for a car with this much mileage.

The noise only appears after a 30 - 40 minute drive, then when I park the car that's when I hear it. Can only be heard when sitting in neutral. And is prominent from under the drivers door under the bonnet.

The best way I can describe the noise is that it sounds like a diesel car/van running and not a knock/tick.

And the whining sound sounds like a diesel car/van when accelerating. (not the misses since she is in the house )

The car drives fine, very fine

Is it just noisy injectors or/and worn engine?

And why is the video of a Moostang ?
You either got your cars, or your forums mixed up.
The Crossfire is the one with the little flip-up thingey on the tail, ( or maybe a big ironing board if it's an SRT6 )

does it do it more at start up ? or does it make noise all the time ? or is it louder at start up but you can still jear it but not so loud ? Then I would say lifter noise & sea foam is the best ! Pour a can in & drive for a day then change oil make sure you use 0 40 mobil 1 good luck !!! It worked for me !!!!

Could be the sound from the injectors. My car has it too, 95,000 miles on it. If it's that, nothing to worry about.

Iv'e got to say it: You came to a forum for crossfires. You asked about a noise your Crossfire is making, (and we here HAVE discussed, at length, many times, the odd sounds the m112 V6 makes, so we ARE interested in helping you.)

Then you post a video and sound of a Mustang. Sorry, but this makes no sense to me, either.

Let us listen to the engine you are talking about and someone here will try to help - unless you continue to offend those who DO try to help.

Thanks MM, but I require no forgiveness.
I don't take my cat to the vet when my dog is sick.
( And I never have, and probably never will own a Moostang )
At least pizzaguy and I agree.

Honestly... I don't think I will bother wasting my time.

I have asked for help, even posted precisely the same noise the car is making.

Unfortunately because the video happens to be a mustang I've upset some people.

If you think it's reasonable to start launching insults from behind your computer screen at someone who is seeking answers then wow.

Fair enough if you require a video of my XF then I will post one - but honestly I will not bother after how negative some forum members are acting as I don't want to be part of this community.

Note from negative forum member #1 :
I apologize if I offended you, but being the pedantic individual that I am :
I must say I DID watch the entire video, and that engine was so noisy I couldn't discern any clear pattern of 'clicking'
among the cacophony of other noises enough to form an opinion.
Thus, I felt compelled to point out that a video of the exact offending engine would have been a better choice.
( and I wasn't upset, only my wife has that ability )

Err no you didn't, you said I had posted on the wrong forum and that I don't know what a crossfire even looks like.

No offence taken - As a new member to the forum I will decided not to be apart of it, thanks.

Perhaps being this quick tempered is the reason why she left as well as me?

Stuie,

He did NOT tell you that you didn't know what a crossfire looks like - are you like this on every forum?

If you want to remain here, you will find that putting on your adult pants and a thicker skin will serve you well. This is a great, helpful community and every one of us loves these cars. We may not love one another, but then, this isn't Community Bible Church (altho we DO have a church service at our Dragon GTG.)

If you want help with a Crossfire, you came to the right place - but if you are just here to make trouble and correct everyone in the world on how to communicate, I'd suggest you just leave now. This silly back and forth crap is already old and tired.

And if you read through this thread some other members agree.....

And now you are dealing insults.....hmmm.

Not a big deal I have chosen not to stay on this forum and get insulted.

Thanks for the help!
