Default TIPS: Using Wrench to Open convertible Manually

Okay guys forget the days of trying to use the special chrysler tool to open your convertible.

Today i decided to explore more and found out the easiest ways to open it under a minute and half. This is always good in an emergency (we all know how our crossfire can act sometimes )

6mm Hench key- $3
10mm Duralast wrench (not really thin) - $5

With the 10mm wrench you should be able to do the same job for this multipurpose tool 5140795AA.

Tried it in my 2005 model and it works great.
Hope it helps someone like me that was going to spend over $160 for that multipurpose key.

Or, get an all in one tool for $20 : 2088990080 - Key - ES#1746403
or here : http://mercedespartscenter.com/parts...FQqsaQodesMDpQ

EDIT: ECS Tuning has increased the price, now about $35 including shipping.

The 10 mm wrench needs to have about a 60 degree bend in it to lock onto the nut, just sayin! waiting on the wrench from ECS tuning

Default Made multipurpose convertible top opening tool for $10

With the manual wrench for opening the convertible top getting near impossible to find I did some online research. Found a 10 MM Park Tool bicycle wrench 1/8" thick on
Amazon Amazon
for $8.50. Needed a longer handle to use on toneau cover so found 8" metal HVAC ( https://www.menards.com/main/heating-cooling/ductwork/ductwork-fittings/double-end-drive-cleats-duct-fitting/70000081lq/p-1444432276904-c-14260.htm?tid=-1381034447118242560&ipos=18about $1. Wrench fits tight into for cavity of the connector , added a little epoxy to be safe and now have a tool that will do what the $150 OEM tool will do for under ten dollars.

.

Very intuitive! I see you also wrapped it somewhat to prevent paint damage. Awesome!

I have opened mine with a standard 10 mm wrench with no bend probably 50 times in the last month while working on the car without a battery. A longer wrench would be better, but a standard 10 mm will do the job.

Don't laugh, or please feel free... is a 'hench' key the same as a 'hex' key? Signed, so not DIY.

I believe that is a typo, never heard of a hench key.

Some folks have reported that a 10mm bicycle wrench works great. These are typically a thin wrench and you can get one from Amazon for probably < $10.
