Default Lock the Roadster With the Top Down?

After a delightful Sunday afternoon cruise with the top down we parked the roadster in the parking lot at the shopping center. The top is still down. As we exited the car I locked it with the remote. Brenda asked what good I thought that was doing with the top down. I said that at least the doors and glove box are locked. She said, "But someone can just reach in and open the door from the inside."

My question to you roadster owners is this. Am I wasting my time locking the car with the top down? What would happen if someone reached in and opened the car door from the inside when the alarm is engaged?
I didn't even think to look at the alarm switch on the console to see that the alarm was engaged. Perhaps the roadster has a sensor that says, "You can't lock this car with the top down, you big dummy."

Brenda encouraged me to reach in and open the door with the alarm engaged to see what would happen. I told her I'd rather ask on the forum than stand in the middle of the parking lot (no other car within 50 yards) with the car pitching a hissy fit. I'm not completely sure how to terminate a hissy fit.

locking yoru roadster with the top down locks the trunk, the Glove box and the console storage box. I don't believe you can "unlock" the door by reaching inside.
Further, the lock pins are too recessed to be manually undone.

I may be wrong here but nothing happens if you try.

I have not tried this but I am willing to bet if you use the unlock/lock switch for the doors with the dash console buttons, nothing happens.

I believe the same that that happens on a coupe. If you reach in and open the door, the alarm will go off and lights flash. If you arm the car with the keyfob, you must disarm with the keyfob. Yes, then can get in and sit in your seat, and they can vandalize, but not without force, open anything locked.

Oh, you can lock it, with the alarm active, with the top down.

If you wish-open a door. And run-the alarm is quite painful if one is too close...

Yea, try it in your garage sometime. Lock it and reach in and open the door.

When the alarm went off, I about deafened myself.

Yup that is correct
Leave the windows open and lock the car
Reach in and open the door and your alarm will go off
Same when you reach in and open the hood while the car is locked
I do it every once in awhile in the garage to to be sure the alarm does what it should

Locking it also disengages the starting function so they get in, mess with the car but it's not likely they'll be able to steal it because the alarm is set and the starter will disengage for anti-theft protection.

Yes, the console locks, but the glove box does not.
This must be done manually with the key.

Also, if the car is locked, but glovebox is NOT locked with the key...then reaching in and opening the glovebox will also trigger the alarm. Alarm is always easily turned off by pressing unlock button on key fob

But no one answered the question of what happens if you unlock the car with the unlock switch in the center stack. I never tried that but I suspect that the trunk and console would unlock even with the alarm. I used to lock my car with the top down all the time.

The unlock button in the center console will not unlock the doors or trunk or anything if the car is armed. I tried it and all it does it click like the doors are unlocked, but its still locked.

My two cents. When the car is locked, the fuel door locks too. I found this out when selling my son's crossfire, recently. (I have owned a Crossfire since 2005.)

The gent who was buying the car asked about opening the fuel door. I went to show him and it wouldn't open. I did everything including ripping the door cover off in my hand before I came to the correct conclusion. My wife locked the doors.

I love you, honey!!!

I believe the hood also stays secured and will not open fully.

If you try to pull the lever to release the hood while the car is locked, the alarm will go off as well...
