Default How does your trunk go up

Doing all can to keep my 2005 roadster I bought a year ago going. Slowly getting through all the essential mods and maintenance. (its a garage queen). Stickey key mod next.

But here is my question. I noticed on a warm day that my trunk would move up by itself after opening it halfway. Normally I have to lift it up and thankfully it stays up. Is the trunk supposed to go up by itself? Thinking of getting new supports but for $70 for the pair want to be sure I need them.

I have an 05 Roadster and my trunk doesn't go up on its own but stays up. The answer will be interesting, because I want ours to work properly as well.

I've owned three Roadsters since 2009 - I actually can't say how mine acts. I think it finishes going up on it's own once you get it to a certain point -but I know that if it's only open a few inches, it sits there or even falls back to nearly closed.

I doubt that they ever went up from the unlock to fully up positions. Other cars with lighter lids can do it when they have springs or better yet torsion bars.
The position the cylinders are situated in is not the most mechanically advantageous position. They are closer to that position when fully up or nearly fully up, Even then they require good operating cylinders to keep them up. Remember these trunk lids have a motor and spoiler which are added weight, the farther the weight is from the hinge point creates extra torque that the cylinders have to overcome.
These are not flimsy lightweight trunk lids.

Yea, and the SRT's appear to be even heavier - seems like it anyway, when I borrow one from Jeff or Ella/John.

That glass is pretty heavy as on all coupes, I’d guess the NA coupes trunk weighs more than the roadsters and the SRTs.

Well, my roadster trunk IS assisted by the shocks, but it does not go up on it's own - it will stay were I put it, partway up or all the way up -but it does not spring up like the engine hood.

The hood has a spring to lift it an inch or so.

After a number of years, our Roadster trunk hood/lid...(boot bonnet*?)...required a little push to fully open & would stay there. I replaced the supports with oem type new parts & when opened just a little, it would go up with some force of it's own. Definately an improvment.
