The modelling process for the divider bracket has been finished and a prototype is on order. Should have prototype in about 30 days. assuming the prototype meets requirements, looks lite the final price will be less than $100. Just a quick survey. Who wants one or more?
First thank you for giving this a shot - something we don't see too often. Will they come with the switch? I could use one for the rescue roadster and a spare. My problem is Canadian $ and shipping. I would be happy to buy two for under 75.00 but I will buy one either way.
Sure can't knock someone who makes a part that is no longer available. Thanks for your effort.
May be interested in a couple if the price is right!
What plastic is the OEM part made from? I suspect it is a fibre reinforced engineering plastic. Why can it not be repaired?
The repair may not look good but it may be stronger than a printed part which has defined weaknesses between each layer. The original part is a strong homogenous plastic part and still breaks.
I would not want to make a part, sell it and then find it is weaker than a properly repaired part.
Just my 2 cents.
Don't think $75 is going to make it. Have to wait and see, but initial estimate was less than $100. No, that doesn't include the switch. I assumed most people would swap the switch from the broken unit to the new unit. I have a couple of used switches for people who need one.

Agreed
I repaired one initially with JB Weld but that had a short shelf life
the second repair was with carbon fibre and resin.
Has anyone tried a repair with Q bond I repaired a door handle on my c320 and it is still holding after pulling on it for almost a year.. also used it on the overhead light inside the car two years ago ( the clips that hold the light up)
and used it on a cofee cup handle of my wife's favorite coffee cup still holding on.

That is what I used for the first repair
it held for a while. In order to get it to hold, you have to fill every bracket cavity with Q bond
the bracket is held in place by 2 nuts and the divider going into and back out of the bracket are too much for the Q Bond
that was my experience.
my bracket was cracked in Half
Just got the prototype in. Looks good with the extra strengthening ribs. Switch and wire fits nicely. Target price is under $100 shipped anywhere CONUS. Who is interested? Need an idea of how many to commit to produce for a final price. PM me with contact details

definitely interested but would like to hear how they perform. Have you installed and how many times have you cycled the divider into the bracket
A factory part, we know will work.
3D printed may or may not hold up
just curious before I commit of it holds up I would order 2
Overall design looks good. The dimensions on mounting holes needs to be modified slightly for ease of installation. Building 2nd prototype Clarification --- the "X" Bracing made mounting very difficult, the 2nd prototype has the bracing modified to provide more clearance. Additional bracing was added to further strengthen the lower portion.
I have searched extensively but it appears the "factory" part is no longer available anywhere. There was an outfit in Europe advertising them for about $140 but when questioned, they are no longer available. That is why I am pursuing this approach.
Attached is a 3D rendition of the 2nd prototype. Open PDF and enable 3D viewing. Hope to have prototype within 2 to 3 weeks.
1st prototype needed a little tweaking to make it easier to install.
I have it installed on my Roadster for an endurance test. It is definitely stronger than the original and much better the the repaired original.
Will keep this post updated with progress.
